Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
SIBLING CONNECTIONS IS THE ONLY ORGANIZATION IN MASSACHUSETTS DESIGNED TO STRENGTHEN THE SIBLING BOND OF CHILDREN SEPARATED BY FOSTER CARE. MORE THAN HALF OF MASSACHUSETTS FOSTER CARE YOUTH ARE SEPARATED FROM THEIR SISTERS AND BROTHERS. WITH CONSTANT CHANGES IN ADULT FIGURES AND A LACK OF SUPPORT SYSTEM IN THEIR LIFE, YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE NEED TO BE GIVEN TIME TO SPEND WITH THEIR SIBLINGS TO FORM STRONG BONDS AND HAVE JUST A LITTLE BIT OF "NORMALCY" IN THEIR LIVES. WHILE THE SIBLING RELATIONSHIP IS THE LONGEST, AND ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT, RELATIONSHIPS MOST PEOPLE HAVE IN THEIR LIVES, THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE REMOVED FROM THEIR FAMILIES BECAUSE OF ABUSE OR NEGLECT. IN MANY INSTANCES, A BROTHER OR SISTER MIGHT LITERALLY BE THE ONLY CONSTANT RELATIONSHIP IN A CHILD'S LIFE. WE CONNECT SIBLINGS SEPARATED BY FOSTER CARE THROUGH VARIOUS PROGRAMS INCLUDING: SIBLING CONNECTIONS CAMP, SIBLING SUNDAYS, WEEKEND RETREATS AND A YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM. APPROXIMATELY 150 CHILDREN WERE SERVICED IN OUR PROGRAMS DURING FY 2020. THE PRIMARY IMPACT ON OUR OPERATIONS DURING THE PANDEMIC IS THAT CAMP AND A MAJORITY OF OUR SIBLING SUNDAY PROGRAMS WERE HELD VIRTUALY AND WE DID NOT HAVE A YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM. FY2020 INCLUDED AN IN-PERSON WEEKEND RETREAT PRIOR TO THE ONSET OF THE PANDEMIC.
