RED PANDA NETWORK STARTED IN 2006, WHEN WE REALIZED THAT LITTLE WAS BEINGDONE TO PROTECT RED PANDA AND ITS HABITAT. WE BEGAN WITH THE IDEA THAT,GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY, LOCAL VILLAGERS WOULD CHOOSE PROTECTION OVEREXPLOITATION OF THEIR NATURAL RESOURCES.WE TESTED THIS THEORY OUT THROUGHOUR FOREST GUARDIAN MONITORING PROGRAM,TRAINING 14 LOCAL VILLAGERS TO MONITOR THEIR FORESTS FOR RED PANDA. NEXT WEREALIZED THAT WE NEEDED TO TURN RED PANDAS INTO A FINANCIAL RESOURCE ANDBEGAN TRAINING LOCAL VILLAGERS IN ECO-TOURISM AND PROMOTING TRIPS TO SEERED PANDA IN THE WILD.BY 2015, WE HAD 47 FOREST GUARDIANS MONITORING 10% OF RED PANDAHABITAT IN NEPAL, AND HAD THE LARGEST GROUP (85) OF TOURISTS BOTH NATIONALAND FOREIGN VISITING THE RED PANDA TRAIL.OUR VISION IS TO ENSURE THE SURVIVAL OF WILD RED PANDAS AND PRESERVE THEIRHABITAT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO STUDY, EXPERIENCE, AND ENJOY. WE ARECOMMITTED TO PROTECTING WILD RED PANDAS AND PRESERVING THEIR HABITATTHROUGH THE EMPOWERMENT OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES BY ADAPTIVE COMMUNITY-BASEDRESEARCH, EDUCATION, AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.
