OUR SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE TO POST-HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS UNDER THE AGE OF 25 AND ENGAGED IN FULL-TIME MUSIC STUDY, WITH THE GEOGRAPHIC RESTRICTION THAT THE FAMILY RESIDENCE MUST BE WITHIN 100 MILES OF PITTSBURGH. OUR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS SUPPORT YOUTH BOTH FINANCIALLY AND WITH PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES. SCHOLARSHIP AUDITIONS ARE HELD BI-ANNUALLY AND, THIS SESSION, A TOTAL OF 45,390 HAS BEEN AWARDED TO 14 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS. (FUNDS FOR SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ARE SEPARATE FROM OUR OPERATING BUDGET.) OUR SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS MAY ALSO PERFORM ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON PUBLIC CONCERTS, AT A SPECIAL SUNDAY AFTERNOON WINNERS RECITAL AND AT MONTHLY MEETINGS IN THE HOMES OF CLUB MEMBERS.
THROUGH OUR MUSICARE PROGRAM, OUR MEMBERS PERFORM IN NURSING HOMES AND RETIREMENT CENTERS THROUGHOUT ALLEGHENY COUNTY. OUR ACTIVITIES ARE PARTICULARLY RELEVANT TO SENIOR CITIZENS. MANY OF OUR MEMBERS ARE RETIREES WHO HAVE RETURNED TO THE MUSICAL INTEREST OF THEIR YOUTH AFTER A CAREER IN OTHER FIELDS. OUR FREE PUBLIC PROGRAMS AND MANY OF OUR DIVISION ACTIVITIES ARE DAYTIME EVENTS AND THUS APPEAL TO MANY SENIOR CITIZENS. MOST OF OUR ACTIVITIES ARE HELD IN PUBLIC LOCATIONS THAT ARE ACCESSIBLE BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AND BY ENTRANCE RAMPS. THESE FACTORS ARE IMPORTANT TO MANY SENIOR CITIZENS, AS WELL AS PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PERSONS OF ALL AGES. MANY OF OUR AUDIENCE MEMBERS FALL INTO THE FIXED INCOME CATEGORY. OUR FREE CONCERTS ARE INTENDED TO MAKE CLASSICAL MUSIC AVAILABLE WITHOUT THE BARRIER OF TICKET PURCHASE REQUIREMENTS FOR THOSE ON LIMITED INCOMES. OUR SUNDAY AFTERNOON PROGRAMS IN PRIVATE HOMES ARE PARTICULARLY APPEALING TO STUDENTS AND FULL-TIME EMPLOYED MUSICIANS AND MUSIC LOVERS.
TUESDAY MUSICAL CLUB SERVES THE GENERAL PUBLIC, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN, OR WOULD LIKE TO BE INVOLVED IN, CLASSICAL MUSIC. IN ADDITION TO OUR FREE PUBLIC CONCERTS FOR MUSIC LOVERS AND STUDENTS, WE OFFER OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERFORMANCE, COACHING, AND CRITIQUES TO THOSE WHO ARE WORKING ON THEIR OWN DEVELOPMENT AS MUSICIANS. OUR MEMBERS AND AUDIENCE ARE DRAWN FROM SUBURBAN AND URBAN ALLEGHENY COUNTY, WITH A SMALL NUMBER FROM SURROUNDING COUNTIES.
