TO FOSTER AND PROMOTE THE EDUCATION OF STUDENTS AT SOUTHSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BY FURNISHING AID AND ASSISTANCE TO THE SCHOOL AND BY FOSTERING RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION.

EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENTEACH YEAR, THE SOUTHSIDE PTO PROVIDES FUNDING AND VOLUNTEERS FOR NUMEROUS FIELD TRIPS AS WELL AS ON-CAMPUS EDUCATIONAL EVENTS. THE PTO ALSO ENHANCES STUDENT EDUCATION BY PURCHASING NEW EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES FOR THE SCHOOL. THIS YEAR'S PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE PURCHASING NEW OUTDOOR CAFETERIA SEATING, UMBRELLAS, AIR PURIFIERS, AND BOTTLE FILLING STATIONS.
COMMUNITY BUILDINGEVERY YEAR, THE PTO ORGANIZES, FUNDS AND STAFFS SEVERAL FREE OR LOW COST EVENTS INCLUDING: FALL FESTIVAL, HOLIDAY HOUSE AND THE VARIETY SHOW. THE FALL FESTIVAL IS A CARNIVAL THAT TAKES PLACE IN OCTOBER. FAMILIES ENJOY A FREE EVENING OF RIDES, CRAFTS, DANCING AND FOOD. HOLIDAY HOUSE IS A WEEK-LONG EVENT EACH DECEMBER WHERE THE STUDENTS CHOOSE GIFT ITEMS FOR THOSE ON THEIR HOLIDAY LIST AND VOLUNTEERS CAREFULLY WRAP EACH GIFT FOR THEM. THE STUDENTS LOVE THE ARTS AND TO SHOWCASE THEIR MANY TALENTS. TWO NIGHTS EACH MAY ARE DEDICATED TO THE SOUTHSIDE VARIETY SHOW. THESE EVENINGS ARE SO FUN, MOST PEOPLE CHOOSE TO ATTEND BOTH NIGHTS, AND IT IS COMMON TO RUN INTO NUMEROUS SOUTHSIDE ALUMS. STUDENTS COMMONLY CHOREOGRAPH AND PERFORM THEIR OWN DANCES, SKITS AND COMEDY ROUTINES. MANY STUDENTS PLAY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND RELISH THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THEM WITH THEIR PEERS.
C.A.R.E. PROGRAMEACH YEAR, TEACHERS SPEND HUNDREDS OF THEIR OWN PERSONAL DOLLARS ON SUPPLIES FOR THEIR CLASSROOMS. IN ORDER TO HELP OFFSET SOME OF THESE FUNDS, THE SOUTHSIDE PTO CREATED C.A.R.E. (COMMUNITY AWARENESS AND RESOURCES FOR EDUCATION), A PROGRAM IN WHICH THE PTO RAISES FUNDS TO REIMBURSE TEACHERS & STAFF FOR THESE EXPENSES AT THE BEGINNING OF EVERY SCHOOL YEAR.
