KFAI IS A VOLUNTEER-BASED COMMUNITY RADIO STATION THAT EXISTS TO BROADCAST INFORMATION, ARTS, AND ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMMING FOR AN AUDIENCE OF DIVERSE RACIAL, SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS. BY PROVIDING A VOICE FOR PEOPLE IGNORED OR MISREPRESENTED BY MAINSTREAM MEDIA, KFAI INCREASES UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN PEOPLES AND COMMUNITIES, AND FOSTERS THE VALUES OF DEMOCRACY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE.

PROGRAMMING/PRODUCTION: KFAI PROVIDED IN-DEPTH COVERAGE OF LOCAL NEWS AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS, AND OFFERED FORUMS FOR DISCUSSION OF COMMUNITY, REGIONAL, NATIONAL AND GLOBAL ISSUES. KFAI MET THE NEEDS OF DIVERSE AUDIENCES BY OFFERING ACCESS TO THE AIRWAVES TO MANY INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES THROUGH PROGRAMMING IN 9 LANGUAGES: AMHARIC, ENGLISH, FRENCH, HMONG, OROMO, SOMALI, SPANISH, TIGRINYA, AND VIETNAMESE. KFAI OFFERED DIVERSE, CULTURALLY-SPECIFIC OPPORTUNITIES FOR ITS LISTENERS IN 2021. COMMUNITY MEMBERS ENJOYED 90 ON-AIR PROGRAMS WEEKLY THROUGH A MUSIC FORMAT THAT SPANS MULTIPLE GENRES, INCLUDING: BLUE, CARIBBEAN, DANCE, HIP-HOP, JAZZ, LATIN, POP, ROCK, ROOTS, R&B, AND SOUL. KFAI'S ARTS, TALK AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS PROGRAMMING WERE JUST AS DIVERSE, RANGING FROM SPOKEN WORD TO POLITICAL COMMENTARY, TOSHORT- AND LONG-FORM DOCUMENTARIES. PROGRAMS WERE BROADCASTED 24 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. KFAI ALSO HOSTED SPECIAL PROGRAMMING EVENTS FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH, INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY, AND AMERICAN INDIAN MONTH THAT DEEPENDED OUR SERVICE TO THESE COMMUNITIES.KFAI PROGRAMS ALSO STREAMED LIVE ON THE STATION'S WEBSITE, WWW.KFAI.ORG, AND WERE AVAILABLE FOR TWO WEEKS VIA ITS ARCHIVE. PROGRAMS WERE ALSO AVAILABLE VIA THE STATION'S MOBILE APP FOR APPLE AND ANDROID DEVICES. KFAI ALSO STREAMED ADDITIONAL CONTENT ON TWO ADDITIONAL DIGITAL CHANNELS AND DISTRIBUTED PODCASTS AND WEB EXCLUSIVE PROGRAMS THROUGH OUR WEBSITE AND UPLOADS TO MULIPLE DIGITAL PLATFORMS. KFAI'S ECLECTIC FORMAT ENGAGES NEARLY EVERY SEGMENT OF THE COMMUNITY: MALE, FEMALE, NONBINARY, YOUNG, OLD, QUEER, STRAIGHT, MAJORITY, MINORITY, FIRST NATION, LONG-TIME RESIDENTS NEW IMMIGRANTS, AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES.

LEGACY ARTS & CULTURAL HERITAGE: FRESH AIR, INC. (KFAI) PRODUCED LEGACY ARTS & CULTURAL HERITAGE PROGRAMMING THAT PROVIDED INDEPENDENT PRODUCERS OPPORTUNITIES TO DEVELOP PROGRAM CONTENT FOCUSED ON MINNESOTA'S RICH ARTS AND CULTURE. THESE PROGRAMS WERE REPRESENTED BY "MINNECULTURE" (HALF-HOUR AUDIO DOCUMENTARIES ON HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL TOPICS) AND "LISTENING LOUNGE" (A ONE HOUR DOCUMENTARY SHOWCASE).
