ADVANCING SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION AS A COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS AND LEADERS. THE TEXAS COUNCIL FOR THE SOCIAL STUDIES (TXCSS) IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION COMPOSED OF A COMMUNITY OF SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATORS AND SUPPORTERS ACROSS THE STATE. SOCIAL STUDIES AS A DISCIPLINE OF STUDY IS FOCUSED ON THE INTERDEPENDENCE OF GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY, GOVERNMENT, ECONOMICS, AND CIVICS IN OUR SOCIETY. WE WELCOME EDUCATORS AND PROFESSIONS FROM A VARIETY OF FIELDS INCLUDING HISTORY, GOVERNMENT, ECONOMICS, GEOGRAPHY, CIVICS, SOCIOLOGY, ANTHROPOLOGY, AND PSYCHOLOGY TO OUR ORGANIZATION.

THE LARGEST PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR THE TEXAS COUNCIL FOR THE SOCIAL STUDIES IS AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE FOR K-12 SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATORS AND SUPPORTERS IN TEXAS. THE 2023 TXCSS CONFERENCE WAS A THREE-DAY EVENT HELD IN HOUSTON WITH A TOTAL REGISTRATION OF OVER 600 SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATORS, DISTRICT LEADERS, PRESENTERS, AND VENDORS. THE REVENUE FROM THIS ANNUAL EVENT NOT ONLY COVERS THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CONFERENCE, BUT ALSO HELP TO SUPPORT THE OPERATIONAL EXPENSES OF THE ORGANIZATION AND OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE MEMBERSHIP THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.


THE TEXAS COUNCIL FOR THE SOCIAL STUDIES PRODUCES A PROFESSIONAL JOURNAL THREE TIMES PER YEAR THAT IS PROVIDED TO CURRENT MEMBERS IN BOTH PRINT AND DIGITAL FORMATS. EACH JOURNAL HAS A SMALL NUMBER OF PAID ADVERTISEMENTS THAT ONLY SLIGHTLY OFFSET THE EXPENSES RELATED TO THIS MEMBER BENEFIT.
