THE MISSION OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF VETERINARY INTERNAL MEDICINE (ACVIM) IS TO ENHANCE ANIMAL AND HUMAN HEALTH BY ADVANCING VETERINARY INTERNAL MEDICINE THROUGH TRAINING, EDUCATION, AN DISCOVERY. THE ACVIM IS THE AMERICAN CERTIFYING ORGANIZATION FOR VETERINARY SPECIALISTS IN CARDIOLOGY, LARGE ANIMAL INTERNAL MEDICINE, NEUROLOGY, ONCOLOGY, AND SMALL ANIMAL INTERNAL MEDICINE.

FORUM: THE ACVIM FORUM IS THE VETERINARY PROFESSION'S PREMIER INTERNAL MEDICINE CONTINUING EDUCATION EVENT. VETERINARIANS AND TECHNICIANS FROM MORE THAN 45 COUNTRIES ATTEND TO PARTICIPATE IN INTERACTIVE SESSIONS, LISTEN TO LEADING EDGE SPEAKERS, AND LEARN ABOUT THE LATEST RESEARCH ABSTRACTS. THE FORUM PRESENTS LECTURES DELIVERED BY RESPECTED SPECIALISTS COVERING THE MOST RELEVANT TOPICS IN VETERINARY MEDICINE AND PROVIDES ACCESS TO THE MOST RECENT AND YET TO BE PUBLISHED RESEARCH. ATTENDEES NETWORK WITH THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST IN THE VETERINARY INDUSTRY. ACVIM HAD 2,648 IN PERSON ATTENDEES AND 1,052 VIRTUAL ATTENDEES AT THE 2023 FORUM, WITH 332 SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS, 311 RESEARCH ABSTRACTS(BOTH ORAL AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS).
BOARD CERTIFICATION: THE ACVIM SEEKS TO ENHANCE ANIMAL AND HUMAN HEALTH BY ADVANCING VETERINARY INTERNAL MEDICINE THROUGH BOARD CERTIFICATION. OUR SPECIALISTS UNDERGO CONSIDERABLE POSTGRADUATE TRAINING BEYOND THE SIX TO EIGHT YEARS OF COLLEGE EDUCATION NORMALLY REQUIRED TO EARN A VETERINARY DEGREE. THIS POSTGRADUATE TRAINING INCLUDES AN INTERNSHIP, RESIDENCY AND DOCUMENTED CLINICAL EXPERIENCE THAT LAYS THE GROUND WORK FOR A CANDIDATE TO TAKE A CERTIFICATION EXAM LEADING TO DIPLOMATE STATUS. ACVIM IS RECOGNIZED AS THE SPECIALTY COLLEGE RESPONSIBLE FOR ESTABLISHING TRAINING REQUIREMENTS, EVALUATING AND ACCREDITING TRAINING PROGRAMS AND EXAMINING AND CERTIFYING VETERINARIANS IN THE SPECIALTIES OF CARDIOLOGY, ONCOLOGY, NEUROLOGY, NUTRITION,LARGE AND SMALL ANIMAL INTERNAL MEDICINE.
MEMBERSHIP: ACVIM MEMBER DIPLOMATES HAVE ACCESS TO THE JOURNAL OF VETERINARY INTERNAL MEDICINE (JVIM),DISCOUNTS ON RESOURCES, CONTINUING EDUCATION, VOLUNTEER AND LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AS WELL AS AN ONLINE COMMUNITY TO DISCUSS SPECIALTY SPECIFIC ISSUES WITH THEIR PEERS. AS OF DECEMBER 31, 2023 ACVIM HAD 3,724 ACTIVE DIPLOMATE MEMBERS.
