THE RIVERBANKS SOCIETY IS A SOUTH CAROLINA CORPORATION ORGANIZED TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR THE RICHLAND-LEXINGTON RIVERBANKS PARK DISTRICT AND ITS ACTIVITIES.

THE SOCIETY FUNCTIONS SOLELY TO SUPPORT THE EFFORTS OF RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN, A GOVERNMENTAL ENTITY THAT OWNS AND OPERATES A PUBLIC ZOO AND BOTANICAL GARDEN. THE SOCIETY PROVIDES FUNDS TO RIVERBANKS DERIVED FROM MEMBERSHIP SALES AND FUNDRAISING EFFORTS. FUNDS PROVIDED SUPPLEMENT AND ENHANCE THE VALUE AND OFFERINGS OF THE ZOO AND GARDEN. THE SOCIETY MAKES ADDITIONAL SMALL GRANTS TO FURTHER CONSERVATION EFFORTS WHEN SO DIRECTED BY RIVERBANKS.


THE SOCIETY'S PRIMARY SOURCE OF FUNDS FOR SUPPORTING RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN IS FROM MEMBERSHIP SALES. ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS ARE SOLD THAT ENTITLE THE MEMBERS TO FREE ADMISSION TO RIVERBANKS ZOO AND GARDEN. THE SOCIETY SELLS, FULFILLS AND MANAGES THE MEMBERSHIP BASE THAT TOTALED 49,033 HOUSEHOLDS AS OF JUNE 30, 2022. .
