THE ASSOCIATION SPONSORS AND FACILITATES SAFETY TRAININGS THAT INCLUDES PROVIDING INFORMATION, TRAINING AND TOOLS THAT HELPS EMPLOYERS MAKE COMPETENT PERSON DESIGNATIONS FOR THEIR APPROPRIATE STAFF. SAFETY TRAININGS ALSO INCLUDE NEW OSHA AND HIOSH STANDARDS AND UPDATING OF ADMINISTRATIVE RULES. THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS ARE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE EDUCATION, INFORMATION OR UPDATES ON TIMELY TOPICS OR ISSUES. IN ADDITION, THE ASSOCIATION PUBLISHED A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER THAT IS DISTRIBUTED IN ELECTRONIC OR HARD COPIES NATIONWIDE. THE ASSOCIATION COULD NOT HOLD ANY SAFETY TRAININGS FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR OF 2021 IN PART BECAUSE NO FACILITIES WERE AVAILABLE AND NO ONLINE SAFETY TRAININGS WERE OFFERED BECAUSE ALL SAFETY CERTIFICATION OR RECERTIFICATION TRAININGS CAME WITH ACTUAL DEMONSTRATION OF COMPETENCE ON SAID EQUIPMENT AND APPARATUS.
THE ASSOCIATION NORMALLY SPONSORS UP TO SIX GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS A YEAR WHICH IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE MEMBERS, POTENTIAL MEMBERS, AND GUESTS WITH TIMELY INFORMATION, AND EDUCATION THAT IMPACTS THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY AND/OR THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY. IN 2021 FIVE MEETINGS WERE HELD AND THEY INCLUDED: - IN APRIL 2021 A MEMBERSHIP MEETING AND WALKABOUT OF THE WAIAHI SURFACE WATER TREATMENT PLANT LOCATED AT THE KAPAIA RESERVOIR WAS HELD FOR APPROXIMATELY 50 MEMBERS AND GUESTS. THE MEETING TOOK PLACE UNDER TENTS, WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING AND HAND SANITIZING PROTOCOLS IN PLACE. - IN JULY KAUAI ISLAND UTILITY COOPERATIVE'S PRESIDENT AND CEO DAVID BISSELL PROVIDED AN UPDATE ON THE COOPERATIVE'S WEST KAUAI ENERGY PROJECT IN A SOCIALLY DISTANCED MEETING HELD AT KILOHANA PLANTATION FOR APPROXIMATELY 70 MEMBERS AND GUESTS. AT THIS MEETING EIGHT STUDENTS WERE AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS. - IN AUGUST, A WALKABOUT AND GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING WAS HELD IN THE SOON-TO-OPEN KOLOA VILLAGE WITH APPROXIMATELY 75 MEMBERS AND GUESTS IN ATTENDANCE. THE SPEAKER WAS KOLOA VILLAGE DEVELOPER MICHAEL SERPA WHO ALSO LEAD MEMBERS AND GUESTS ON A WALKABOUT OF THE PROJECT. - IN OCTOBER MEMBERS AND GUESTS MET AT KAUAI NURSERY AND LANDSCAPING, IN A SOCIALLY DISTANCED SETTING FOR A PRESENTATION AND DEMONSTRATION BY TROY OGASAWARA OF CAK MEMBER GEOTECH SOLUTION ON MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS AVAILABLE IN THE MARKETPLACE FOR BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES (BMPS) ON CONSTRUCTION JOB SITES. - ON DECEMBER 2, 2021 MICAH KANE, PRESIDENT AND CEO OF THE HAWAII COMMUNITY FOUNDATION WAS THE GUEST SPEAKER AT THE ASSOCIATION'S 64TH ANNUAL MEETING HELD AT THE ROYAL SONESTA KAUAI RESORT FOR OVER 140 MEMBERS AND GUESTS. SOCIAL DISTANCING AND COVID PROTOCOLS WERE IN PLACE WITH ONLY VACCINATED PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE.
EIGHT KAUAI STUDENTS SHARED IN 11,000 WORTH OF SCHOLARSHIPS THAT SCHOLARSHIP WAS RETAINED IN THE THE ASSOCIATION'S RESTRICTED ACCOUNT TO BE AWARDED IN 2021: - CHACE BALIARIS, SOPHMORE CARPENTRY MAJOR AT KAUAI COMMUNITY COLLEGE. 1,000 - RAYMART DELACRUZ, SOPHMORE ELECTRICAL AND FACILITIES MAINTENANCE MAJOR AT KAUAI COMMUNITY COLLEGE. 1,500 - KEANU DOTARIO, FRESHMAN ELECTRICAL AND FACILITIES MAINTENANCE MAJOR AT KAUAI COMMUNITY COLLEGE. 2,000 - BRANSYN ESTRADA, SOPHMORE ELECTRICAL AND FACILITIES MAINTENANCE MAJOR AT KAUAI COMMUNITY COLLEGE. 1,500 - TYLER HAWTHORNE, FRESHMAN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING MAJOR AT OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY. 1,000 - RON JANUS ACOB, JUNIOR ARCHITECT MAJOR AT PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY. 1,500 - JULIA SAFFORD, SOPHMORE CIVIL ENGINEERING/PHYSICS MAJOR AT SAINT MARY'S COLLEGE IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. 1,000 - DESTREY SHIBUYA, SOPHMORE CIVIL ENGINEERING/MATH MAJOR AT THE COLLEGE OF WOOSTER IN OHIO. 1,500

THE ASSOCIATION CONTINUES TO FILE COMPLAINTS ON BEHALF OF ITS MEMBERS TO THE REGULATED INDUSTRIES COMPLAINTS OFFICE (RICO) ON UNLICENSED CONTRACTING. 2. THE ASSOCIATION PRODUCES A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER, WHICH IS THE ASSOCIATION'S INTERNAL COMMUNICATION TOOL. INCLUDED IN THE NEWSLETTER ARE FLYERS AND REGISTRATION FORMS FOR MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS, ALL OF THE SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL TRAININGS AND WORKSHOPS THE ASSOCIATION SPONSORS AND ANY SPECIAL ACTIVITIES THE ASSOCIATION IS AFFILIATED WITH. 3.
