TO COLLECT AND PRESERVE HISTORIC STRUCTURES, ARTIFACTS AND DOCUMENTS OF WILKES CO., NC THROUGH EXHIBITS, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, PERFORMANCES, AND RESEARCH THE MUSEUM INTERPRETS THE HISTORY OF

OPERATING THE WILKES HERITAGE MUSEUM, OLD WILKES JAIL AND THE CAPT. ROBERT CLEVELAND LOG HOME. THE SITES ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC 5 DAYS PER WEEK WITH A SMALL ADMISSION CHARGE. THE MUSEUM HAS 2 FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 60 VOLUNTEERS. REVENUE IS RECEIVED FROM GRANTS FROM THE TOWN OF WILKESBORO AND THE COUNTY OF WILKES PLUS OTHER VARIOUS SOURCES. THE MUSEUM ATTRACTS OVER 10,000 VISITORS ANNUALLY FROM NUMEROUS STATES AND FOREIGN CONTRIES.
THE ORGANIZATION MANAGES THE BLUE RIDGE MUSIC HALL OF FAME WHICH SHOWCASES AND PRESERVES THE RICH MUSICAL HERITAGE ASSOCIATED WITH THE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS. THE HALL OF FAME IS A MAJOR COMPONENT OF THE MUSEUM. THERE IS A COMMITTEE THAT CONSISTS OF STAFF, BOARD MEMBERS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, MUSICIANS AND LOVERS OF MUSIC THAT IS TASKED WITH OVERSEEING NOMINATIONS AND INDUCTIONS ANNUALLY OF AT LEAST 6 PEOPLE INTO THE HALL OF FAME. AN INDUCTION CEREMONY IS HELD ANNUALLY TO RECOGNIZE THE AWARDEES. SPONSORSHIPS AND GRANTS ARE SOUGHT TO OFFSET EXPENDITURES.
