MANCHESTER CRAFTSMEN'S GUILD (MCG) YOUTH & ARTS EDUCATES AND INSPIRES YOUTH THROUGH THE ARTS TO BECOME PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS. THE MISSION OF MCG JAZZ IS TO PRESERVE, PRESENT, AND PROMOTE JAZZ.

MCG YOUTH & ARTS' SUCCESSFUL PROGRAMMING YEAR WAS DELIVERED VIRTUALLY IN 2020-21 AND SERVED 162 UNIQUE YOUTH THROUGH ITS FLAGSHIP AFTERSCHOOL APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM (ATP). SURVEYS OF HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WHO PARTICIPATED IN ATP AND REVIEWS OF GRADUATION RECORDS SHOW THAT 95 PERCENT OF PARTICIPANTS GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL ON TIME IN 2020, AND 95 PERCENT PLAN TO PURSUE HIGHER EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES. OF THESE STUDENTS, 82 PERCENT INDICATED THAT THEY CREDIT MCG YOUTH & ARTS WITH HELPING THEM TO PURSUE POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION. MCG YOUTH & ARTS ALSO PROVIDED ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL DAY PROGRAMMING TO 47 STUDENTS FROM HOLY FAMILY INSTITUTE, PRESSLEY RIDGE DAY SCHOOL, THE WATSON INSTITUTE, AND PITTSBURGH PUBLIC SCHOOLS' CITY CONNECTIONS. MCG YOUTH & ARTS HAS BUILT AN EXTENSIVE COLLEGE AND CAREER PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL ENROLLED STUDENTS TO DEVELOP SOFT SKILLS, MEET WITH COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVES, VISIT COLLEGE CAMPUSES, AND PARTICIPATE IN WORKSHOPS FOCUSED ON TOPICS RANGING FROM FINANCIAL AID, GOAL-SETTING, COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS, AND ALTERNATIVE CAREER PATHWAYS. DURING JANUARY 2021 MCG YOUTH & ARTS HOSTED ITS ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP NIGHT EVENT WHERE STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES CAN MEET REPRESENTATIVES FROM COLLEGES THAT PROVIDE EXCLUSIVE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MCG STUDENTS. THERE IS ALSO THE OPTION TO PARTICIPATE IN A FAFSA WORKSHOP TO ASSIST FAMILIES IN COMPLETING THE IMPORTANT APPLICATION THAT MAY PROVIDE THEM WITH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR COLLEGE.
FOR THE FIRST TIME, MCG JAZZ PRESENTED A COMPLETELY VIRTUAL CONCERT SEASON. THE 34TH ANNUAL CONCERT SEASON WAS PROGRAMMED WITH THE THEME OF "THE NEW JAZZ AGE AND WAS TRANSLATED TO AN ONLINE STREAMING PLATFORM DURING 2020-2021. MCG JAZZ'S STAFF EMBARKED ON THE TASK OF LEARNING THE MECHANICS OF VIRTUALLY STREAMING CONCERTS DURING THIS PIVOT. MUSICIANS WORE MASKS WHEN POSSIBLE AND WERE SOCIALLY DISTANCED ON THE MCG JAZZ STAGE WHERE THEY PERFORMED FULL CONCERTS. THESE SHOWS WERE STREAMED LIVE TO MCG JAZZ SUBSCRIBERS AND PATRONS. THE CONCERT SEASON VIRTUAL STREAMS AND RELATED INTERACTIVE VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING RECEIVED 12,235 STREAMS. VIEWERS ENJOYED PERFORMANCES FROM BOB MINTZER BIG BAND, THE SMITHSONIAN JAZZ SEXTET, THE HOT SARDINES, AND MORE. MCG JAZZ ALSO HOSTED A VIRTUAL GALA IN MAY 2021 TO ANNOUNCE THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON.MCG JAZZ ALSO PROVIDED VIRTUAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING TO OVER 3,651 STUDENTS IN 29 SCHOOLS ACROSS TWO STATES WITH ITS SCHOOL OF SWING PROGRAM. MCG JAZZ PARTNERED WITH BAY 41 AND CON ALMA IN OCTOBER 2020 TO PRESENT JAZZ AT BAY 41, A SOCIALLY DISTANT CONCERT AT BAY 41'S LOCATION IN THE LAWRENCEVILLE NEIGHBORHOOD OF PITTSBURGH. MCG JAZZ WORKED WITH THE CITY THEATRE TO HOST SEVERAL DRIVE-IN ARTS FESTIVALS AT HAZELWOOD GREEN. ADDITIONALLY, MUSICIANS FROM THE MCG JAZZ MUSICIANS PERFORMANCE FUND PERFORMED SOCIALLY-DISTANCED CONCERTS IN THE ALLEGHENY COUNTY PARKS THAT WERE BROADCAST ON PITTSBURGH'S THE CW NETWORK.
