Part 3 - Line 1
OHSUF IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION ESTABLISHED IN 1970 DEDICATED TO SECURE PRIVATE PHILANTHROPIC SUPPORT FOR OHSU AND TO INVEST AND MANAGE GIFTS RESPONSIBLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH DONORS' WISHES.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
FUNDING RAISED BY THE FOUNDATION IS BEING USED BY OHSU TO SUPPORT RESEARCH, EDUCATION, AND PATIENT CARE IN THE AREAS OF CANCER, VISION, HEARING, NEUROLOGY, NURSING, DENTISTRY, BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, HEALTH DISPARITIES AND EQUITY, RURAL HEALTH, PUBLIC HEATH, AND MANY OTHERS.HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS YEAR INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:THE SPRINT FOR OHSU STUDENTS CAMPAIGN SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDED THIS YEAR, GENERATING $24 MILLION TO SUPPORT OHSU STUDENTS WHO WILL BECOME THE NEXT GENERATION OF NURSES, DOCTORS, DENTISTS, PHARMACISTS, PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS AND PUBLIC HEALTH PROFESSIONALS. WHEN WE BEGAN THE SPRINT, WE AIMED TO MEET THE URGENT STUDENT NEED CREATED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. NOT ONLY DID DONORS PROVIDE FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO CURRENT STUDENTS, BUT FUTURE STUDENTS WILL HAVE ACCESS TO MORE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES. OHSU STUDENTS ARE ON A DIFFICULT PATH THROUGH RIGOROUS ACADEMIC TRAINING, THEY ARE PREPARING TO MEET COMPLEX CHALLENGES ACROSS THE HEALTH CARE LANDSCAPE. SCHOLARSHIPS HELP SUPPORT AND ATTRACT EXCEPTIONAL AND DIVERSE STUDENTS TO ALL OF OHSU'S SCHOOLS AND PROGRAMS.OUR THIRD OHSU GIVE DAY ON MAY 23 WAS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL TO DATE, RESULTING IN AN INSPIRING DAY OF IMPACT FOR OHSU AND OHSU DOERNBECHER CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL. A SUCCESS ON ALL FRONTS, GIVE DAY BROUGHT THE OHSU COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE AND EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF ONE DAY THROUGH GIVING, ENGAGEMENT AND OUTREACH. OUR OHSU GIVE DAY EXCEEDED $500,000 RAISED WITH NEARLY 870 GIFTS IN A 24-HOUR PERIOD. OHSU DOERNBECHER CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL WAS THE TOP GIVE DAY BENEFICIARY, FOLLOWED BY THE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND THE KNIGHT CANCER INSTITUTE. THE PANDA CARES FOUNDATION THE PHILANTHROPIC ARM OF THE RESTAURANT CHAIN PANDA EXPRESS PRESENTED OHSU DOERNBECHER CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL WITH A $5 MILLION CHECK TO CREATE THE "PANDA CARES CENTER OF HOPE" WITHIN DOERNBECHER. THE NEW SPACE, WHICH WAS UNVEILED IN OCTOBER, PROVIDES SPECIALLY CURATED PROGRAMS THAT PROMOTE A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO HEALTH CARE, INCLUDING ADDRESSING CHILDREN'S MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL NEEDS. OHSU DOERNBECHER'S PANDA CARES CENTER OF HOPE IS HOUSED IN THE SOUTH ACUTE CARE UNIT LOCATED ON THE 9TH FLOOR, WHICH INCLUDES 24 PATIENT ROOMS TO CARE FOR CHILDREN WHO MAY BE HOSPITALIZED FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS, RANGING FROM ACUTE ILLNESS TO RECOVERY FROM SURGERY. THE CENTER WILL OFFER THERAPEUTIC PLAY, ART THERAPY, MEDITATION AND COUNSELING SERVICES ALL DESIGNED TO PROVIDE CHILDREN THE COMFORT, COURAGE AND STRENGTH NEEDED TO FACE THEIR ILLNESS OR INJURY. THE PARTNERSHIP ENABLES DOERNBECHER TO HIRE A DEDICATED NURSE COORDINATOR, WHO PROVIDES RESOURCES AND SUPPORT FOR PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES IN 15 COUNTIES ACROSS THE STATE. WE WERE DELIGHTED TO HOST THE WOLD FAMILY AT THE OHSU CASEY EYE INSTITUTE THIS PAST YEAR, AFTER WHICH THE WOLD FOUNDATION MADE A THIRD COMMITMENT TO ESTABLISH AN ENDOWED CHAIR FOR CASEY'S DAVID HUANG, M.D., PH.D., THE GLOBAL LEADER IN OPHTHALMIC IMAGING AND A FORCE FOR BRILLIANT INNOVATION UNLIKE ANYTHING THE FIELD OF OPHTHALMOLOGY HAS SEEN BEFORE. WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE GENEROUS WOLD FAMILY WHOSE TREMENDOUS SUPPORT IS TRANSLATING INTO NEW SOLUTIONS AND TREATMENTS FOR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM EYE DISEASE. AS DR. HUANG SHARED, "IF YOU CAN SEE IT, YOU CAN SOLVE IT." THIS GIFT WILL OPEN THE DOOR TO RESEARCH AND INNOVATION NOW AND IN THE FUTURE THAT WILL LEAD TO FINDING NEW AND BETTER WAYS TO DIAGNOSE AND TREAT MACULAR DEGENERATION AND MANY OTHER DISEASES.FOLLOWING THE 2022 LOSS OF FEDERAL PROTECTIONS OVER ABORTION CARE, OHSU LAUNCHED A NEW CENTER FOR REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH EQUITY TO ADVANCE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES, EDUCATION AND POLICY RESEARCH, AND ESTABLISHED THE ABORTION CARE & TRAINING (ACT) FUND TO QUICKLY MOBILIZE RESOURCES TO: EXPAND CLINICAL SERVICES WITHIN OHSU AND MEET THE PATIENT NEED; TRAIN MORE CLINICIANS TO PROVIDE ABORTION CARE, ESPECIALLY THOSE PRACTICING IN STATES THAT HAVE BANNED OR RESTRICTED THIS TRAINING; AND GENERATE RESEARCH DATA THAT GUIDES THE DEVELOPMENT OF EVIDENCE-BASED PUBLIC POLICY.
