THE ORGANIZATION WORKS TO REBUILD LIVES IN A STABLE FAMILY ATMOSPHERE WHERE RESIDENTS LIVE, WORK AND PLAY TOGETHER. ALTOGETHER, OUR 16 SAFE, DIGNIFIED NEIGHBORHOOD HOMES HOUSE UP TO 170 MEN AND WOMEN. THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR PROGRAMS, RESIDENTS WORK TOWARD STABILITY AND, IF POSSIBLE, FULL INDEPENDENCE. THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES EMERGENCY RESIDENCES FOR 1 TO 90 NIGHTS, PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOMES AND SINGLE OCCUPANCY UNITS. RESIDENTS SHARE HOUSEHOLD CHORES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, RESPECT ONE ANOTHER'S TRADITIONS, CELEBRATE HOLIDAYS AND BIRTHDAYS TOGETHER, AND PARTICIPATE IN DAY TRIPS.
LOAVES & FISHES IS A LARGE SOUP KITCHEN IN DOWNTOWN HOUSTON WHERE 200 TO 300 OF HOUSTON'S CHRONICALLY HUNGRY GATHER SIX DAYS A WEEK FOR NUTRITIOUS, HOT, HOME-COOKED LUNCHES COOKED BY OUR STAFF AND SERVED BY VOLUNTEERS.
WE OFFER UPLIFTING, EMPOWERING PROGRAMS FOR THOSE WITH MENTAL HEALTH DIAGNOSIS THROUGH ST. JOSEPH CLUBHOUSE (LOCATED IN MIDTOWN HOUSTON) WHICH IS SAMHSA APPROVED AND CERTIFIED BY THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR CLUBHOUSE DEVELOPMENT (ICCD). IN THE COMMUNITY WE BUILD, OUR MEMBERS PARTICIPATE FULLY IN DAILY OPERATIONS AND DECISION MAKING AND DEMONSTRATE THAT MENTAL ILLNESS NEED NOT CARRY A STIGMA - THAT, GIVEN THE TOOLS, PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS CAN BE PRODUCTIVE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY WITH MUCH TO OFFER.
THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES A RETAIL TRAINING CENTER AND OTHER ACTIVITIES TO ASSIST IN PROVIDING REHABILITATION AND LIFE SKILLS TO RESIDENTS.
