GREATER PHILADELPHIA CONCERT SERIES: TEMPESTA DI MARE IS THE ONLY PERMANENTLY ROSTERED BAROQUE ORCHESTRA IN PENNSYLVANIA. EACH OF OUR ANNUAL FIVE HOME CONCERTS IS CURATED AROUND UNIFYING PROGRAMMATIC IDEAS, FOR INSTANCE MUSIC CHAMPIONED AND PRESERVED BY JEWISH SALLONIERE, SARA LEVY AND HER SISTERS, WHOSE WORK SPARKED THE MODERN BACH REVIVAL (MADAME LEVY'S SALON; SARA AND HER SISTERS), WORKS BY EACH OF THE FOUR COMPOSERS WHO COMPETED FOR A COVETED JOB IN LEIPZIG (LEIPZIG SHORTLIST), AND ORCHESTRAL PERSPECTIVES ON NATURE UNLEASHED (FORCE MAJEURE). AT TIMES, THOSE THEMES SPAN SEASON-LONG EXPLORATIONS OF THE BAROQUE ERA'S MOST FAMOUS WORKS: BACH'S BRANDENBURG CONCERTOS AND VIVALDI'S THE FOUR SEASONS, PROGRAMMED ALONGSIDE LARGELY UNFAMILIAR MUSIC THAT INSPIRED AND SURROUNDED THEM. OR THEY EXPLORE A DISTINCT STYLE OF MUSIC SUCH AS OUR TWO-SEASON, 8 CONCERT PROJECT COMEDIE ET TRAGEDIE: FRENCH ORCHESTRAL MUSIC FOR THE THEATRE, OR THE 5 YEAR FOCUS ON THE REDISCOVERY OF JOHANN FRIEDRICH FASCH. TOURS: TEMPESTA DI MARE HAS TOURED FORM OREGON TO PRAGUE. NOTABLE TOURS HAVE INCLUDED THE GOTTINGEN HANDEL FESTIVAL (GERMANY), THE TELEMANN FESTIVAL (GERMANY), AND RETURN ENGAGEMENTS AT NEW YORK FRICK COLLECTION, THE NATIONAL GALLERY AND AT THE FOLGER SHAKESPEARE LIBRARY IN WASHINGTON, DC. THE ORCHESTRA TOURED TO THE INTERNATIONAL FASCH FESTIVAL IN ZERBST, GERMANY, NEW ENGLAND EARLY MUSIC FESTIVAL, AND ON THE CORNELL AND HARTFORD UNIVERSITIES' CONCERT SERIES.
RECORDINGS AND BROADCASTS: IN A MARKETPLACE DOMINATED BY EUROPEAN ENSEMBLES, TEMPESTA IS THE ONLY AMERICAN BAROQUE MUSIC GROUP TO RECORD FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS BRITISH LABEL CHANDOS, WITH WHOM WE HAVE HAD AN EXCLUSIVE RECORDING CONTRACT SINCE 2004. OUR CATALOGUE INCLUDES TWELVE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED CD'S WHICH ARE SOLD AND BROADCAST AROUND THE WORLD. OUR CONCERT AUDIO CAN BE HEARD ON RADIO STATIONS ACROSS THE U.S ON A DAILY BASIS ON SHOWS SUCH AS PERFORMANCE TODAY, SUNDAY BAROQUE AND MANY OTHERS. THROUGH THE EUROPEAN BROADCAST UNION OUR RECORDINGS ARE SHARED TO OVER 56 COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE, WHERE THEY REACH AN ANNUAL LISTENERSHIP OF MILLIONS.
