COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT CURRICULUM PROVIDES EDUCATION AND TRAINING WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP, POLITICAL PARTICIPATION, MOBILIZATION, AND ADVOCACY. THROUGH OUR WORKSHOPS IN GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING AND ACTION PLANNING, WCI PROVIDES WOMEN WITH THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO MEANINGFULLY PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES.STARTED IN 2010, THE GIRLS ADVOCACY AND LEADERSHIP SERIES (GALS) IS AN AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM OF WCI THAT COMBINES ALL OF WCI'S PROGRAM THEMES TO EMPOWER DISENFRANCHISED TEENAGE GIRLS IN THE PHILADELPHIA AREA WITH THE SKILLS AND SUPPORT TO BE CONFIDENT LEADERS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. OVER THE COURSE OF 18 WEEKS, PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS AT OUR PARTNER SCHOOLS GAIN LIFE SKILLS, LEARN FROM LOCAL WOMEN LEADERS, AND CREATE ADVOCACY CAMPAIGNS TO ADDRESS THE COMMUNITY ISSUES THEY CARE ABOUT.IN 2021 WCI INTRODUCED A NEW PROGRAM: COVID-FREE AMBASSADORS AND REPRESENTATIVES (COFAR), BASED IN PHILADELPHIA. THROUGH THIS INITIATIVE, WCI FACILITATES VIRTUAL WEBINARS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AND THE PHILADELPHIA SCHOOL DISTRICT TO INFORM PHILADELPHIA YOUTH AMBASSADORS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE COVID-19 VACCINE AND EQUIP AMBASSADORS WITH THE ADVOCACY SKILLS THEY NEED TO SHARE ACCURATE HEALTH INFORMATION MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.REDUCING ADOLESCENT PREGNANCY (RAP) IN THE ERA OF COVID-19 - WCI PARTNERED WITH WINAM GREEN VENTURES (WGV), A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION BASED IN KENYA, TO IMPLEMENT THE RAP INITIATIVE IN KISUMU, KENYA, FOR A FOUR WEEK-LONG PILOT PROGRAM. THE RAP INITIATIVE COVERS 4 MAIN THEMES - PREGNANCY AND STD PREVENTION, COVID-19 SAFETY AND INFORMATION, MENSTRUATION AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH, AND SAFE SEX EDUCATION. FOUR MONTHS AFTER THE PILOT PROGRAM, ALL 60 PARTICIPANTS PREVENTED PREGNANCY, REMAINED HEALTHY, AND RETURNED TO SCHOOL SAFELY.
ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY CURRICULUM EQUIPS WOMEN WITH THE KNOWLEDGE TO TAKE ON LARGER ROLES IN FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, UNDERSTAND AND ACCESS FINANCIAL RESOURCES, AND GROW THEIR OWN BUSINESSES THROUGH EDUCATION IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND BUDGETING. WCI PARTNERS WITH FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF WOMEN'S WEALTH AND ENSURE THEIR INCLUSION IN LASTING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.WCI PROVIDES WOMEN WITH THE TOOLS AND CONNECTIONS THEY NEED TO BE FINANCIALLY LITERATE AND CREATE THEIR OWN BUSINESSES. WCI WORKED IN AFGHANISTAN CONNECT WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS WITH FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS AND MEDIA. WCI HOSTED WORKSHOPS THAT TAUGHT WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS HOW TO ACCESS FINANCIAL TOOLS, MARKET THEIR BUSINESSES, NETWORK WITH STAKEHOLDERS, AND NAVIGATE GENDER CONSTRAINTS THAT WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN AFGHANISTAN FACE.
CONFLICT TRANSFORMATION CURRICULUM, FOCUSING ON ADVOCACY, NEGOTIATION, AND LEADERSHIP, INCREASES INDIVIDUALS' ABILITY TO MINDFULLY PARTICIPATE IN CONFLICT PREVENTION, MITIGATION, RESOLUTION, AND PEACEBUILDING EFFORTS. WCI EDUCATES COMMUNITIES AND INDIVIDUALS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF RECOGNIZING THE ROLE OF WOMEN AS LEADERS IN PEACEBUILDING PROCESSES TO CREATE MEANINGFUL SOLUTIONS TO INTERPERSONAL, SOCIETAL, AND POLITICAL CONFLICTS.
