IN OCTOBER 2023 WE ANNOUNCED AND ADVERTISED OUR PROGRAM. WE INVITED RESIDENTS OF WAYNE COUNTY TO SIGN UP IN THEY WERE IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE. DURING SIGN UP WEEK, WE ASSISTED OVER 145 FAMILIES IN FILLING OUT A FORM WHICH LISTS BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE FAMILY INCLUDING A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THEIR NEEDS. ONCE THE LIST WAS COMPILED, WE THEN ASSIGNED EACH FAMILY TO A LARGE GROUP OF VOLUNTEER SHOPPERS. THE SHOPPERS HAD APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS TO SHOP FOR THE CHILDREN ON THEIR LISTS. ALL GIFTS WERE RETURNED AND SORTED OUT FOR DISTRIBUTION TO THE PARENTS ON THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER. ON DISTRIBUTION DAY FAMILIES COME TO PICK UP THEIR PACKAGES SPECIFICALLY PURCHASED FOR THEIR CHILDREN. ONCE THEY ARRIVE, THEY ALSO HAVE A CHANCE TO WALK THROUGH AND SELECT ANY GENTLY USED ITEMS OF CLOTHING AND TOYS WHICH HAVE BEEN COLLECTED, SORTED AND COMPILED OVER THE YEAR.
