THE YORK ELECTRICAL INSTITUTE'S MISSION IS TO PROVIDE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ELECTRICIANS IN YORK AND ADAMS COUNTY THAT WILL ENSURE IBEW LOCAL 229 HAS THE HIGHEST SKILLED APPRENTICES AND JOURNEYMAN AVAILABLE.

THE TRUST'S SOLE ACTIVITY IS THE TRAINING OF APPRENTICES IN THE ELECTRICAL TRADE. THE TRUST RECRUITS STUDENTS FROM VO-TECH HIGH SCHOOLS AND LOCAL TRADE SCHOOLS. THE PROGRAM HAS A LEVEL FOR EACH YEAR. THE ELECTRICIAN (WIREMAN) PROGRAM IS A FIVE YEAR PROGRAM AND THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS PROGRAM IS A THREE YEAR PROGRAM. THE APPRENTICES ARE OFFERED EMPLOYMENT AS AVAILABLE DURING THEIR TRAINING PERIOD BY THE EMPLOYERS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT THROUGH THE ASSOCIATION WITH THE UNION. AT COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAM, THE STUDENTS RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE AND CREDENTIAL FROM THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR.
