JINAN LICHENG ZHIQUANG REHAB CENTER - WALK WITH THE SNAIL PROGRAM IN JIAN, SHANDONG PROVINCE, CHINA - THIS NON-GOVERNMENTAL CENTER PROVIDED COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS AGED 18-55 WITH MENTAL CHALLENGES OR PHYSICAL DISABILITIES. SERVICES OFFERED INCLUDE VOCATIONAL SKILLS ASSESSMENT, VOCATIONAL CAREER PLANNING, JOB OPPORTUNITY DEVELOPMENT, EMPLOYMENT SKILLS TRAINING, CAREER TRANSITION SUPPORT, WORKPLACE ECOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT CONSTRUCTION, WORK STATUS MAINTENANCE, AND JOB RIGHTS PROTECTION. FUNDS FROM OUR ORGANIZATION OF $37,100 IN 2022 SUPPORTED THE EXPENSES OF 4 FULL-TIME COUNSELORS. 20 ADULT STUDENTS ARE CURRENTLY IN DIFFERENT STAGES OF EVALUATION AND TRAINING, AND 10 STUDENTS HAVE SECURED CLEANING JOBS AT A NEARBY SHOPPING MALL. CARITAS TAIWAN - NORTHERN THILAND CHINESE SCHOOLTHIS PROGRAM IS UNDER THE COMMISSION OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF TAIPEI, TAIWAN. CARITAS TAIWAN SUPPORTS 40 SCHOOLS LOCATED AMONG THE 100 CHINESE DESCENDANTS' VILLAGES IN NORTHERN THAILAND-CHINA BORDER. TWICE A YEAR, VOLUNTEER TEACHERS FROM TAIWAN CONDUCT TRAINING PROGRAMS TO IMPROVE LOCAL TEACHERS IN CHINESE LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION, MATHEMATICS, COMPUTER SKILLS, ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS, HYGIENE, AS WELL AS CULTURE AND ARTS. MOST OF THE STUDENTS ARE DESCENDANTS OF CHINESE REFUGEES WHO WERE DISPLACED DUE TO CIVIL WARS IN THE AREA. THIS FUND HAS BEEN SPENT ON (1) TUITION FOR 444 STUDENTS AGED 7-18. (2) 19 STUDENTS STUDYING IN UNIVERSITIES IN TAIWAN. (3) SALARIES FOR 24 TEACHERS. THIS PROGRAM IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF MANY INDIVIDUALS AND HAS ALSO HELPED TO IMPROVE THE OVERALL WELL-BEING OF THE COMMUNITY.
BOSTON COLLEGE CHINESE STUDENT COMPANION OUTREACH, BOSTON, MATO PROVIDE COMPANIONSHIP AND GUIDANCE FOR CHINESE STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS AT BOSTON COLLEGE AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS IN THE GREATER BOSTON AREA. FOCUSING ON CATHOLIC AND JESUIT VALUES AND GOALS AND FOSTER FAITH, CULTURE, AND LIFE EXCHANGE, THIS SERVICE HELPS THESE SCHOLARS AND STUDENTS TO CONTRIBUTE TO CHINA'S SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND CHURCH MISSION WHEN THEY RETURN HOME. THERE HAVE BEEN 20 IN-PERSON MEETINGS IN 2022: EIGHT LARGE ONES EVERY TWO MONTHS WITH 45-60 STUDENTS FOR TWO HOURS, AND 12 SMALL ONES IRREGULARLY WITH 12 STUDENTS FOR THREE TO FOUR HOURS. THESE MEETINGS USUALLY HELD IN CLASSROOMS, LECTURE HALLS, FACULTY OFFICES OR LOUNGES WHERE CATERED MEALS WERE PROVIDED TO THE PARTICIPANTS SUBSIDIZED BY OUR FUNDS.
