DEVELOP AND MANAGE THE PILOT PROGRAM FOR BACKHAUL ALASKA, A PROGRAM THAT COORDINATES THE HAULING OF HAZARDOUS WASTE OUT OF RURAL ALASKA COMMUNITIES. THE PROGRAM WILL BEGIN WITH VILLAGE GENERATED WASTES, AND SLOWLY EXPAND TO BECOME A WASTE SERVICE FOR AGENCIES, INDIVIDUALS, AND CORPORATIONS DOING BUSINESS IN RURAL ALASKA.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT: PROVIDE TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND TRAINING ASSISTANCE TO RURAL AND REMOTE NON-HUB COMMUNITIES.
PROVIDE RURAL ALASKANS WITH A SKILLSET TO BE BEST EMPLOYABLE WITHIN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES. IT IS BY BUILDING LOCAL COMMUNITY-BASED EMPLOYMENT THAT INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES CAN BE BEST ECONOMICALLY AND SOCIO-CULTURALLY EMPOWERED. EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES WITH LOCAL SKILLS NEEDED TO MITIGATE THEIR OWN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES PROVIDES A NEEDED ECONOMIC BOOST OF LOCAL JOB CREATION. WITH PROPER ENVIRONMENTAL WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT THESE COMMUNITIES WILL ACCOMPLISH MEANINGFUL PROGRESS IN ADDRESSING THE CONTAMINATED SITES AND PREVENTING A PUBLIC HEALTH PROBLEM.
