Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
INCREASED PHILANTHROPIC SUPPORT IS VITAL TO THE RURAL ARH HEALTHCARE SYSTEM TO MAINTAIN THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY, FACILITY QUALITY, PROGRAMS, AND SERVICES THAT HAVE MADE ARH A REGIONAL HEALTHCARE LEADER. THE ARH FOUNDATION FOR HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2006 AS A FUNDRAISING ARM FOR THE NOT-FOR-PROFIT ARH SYSTEM AND TO ADDRESS THE GROWING HEALTHCARE NEEDS IN COMMUNITIES THAT TRADITIONALLY RANK LOWER THAN AVERAGE IN MAJOR HEALTH STATISTICS. THE MISSION OF THE ARH FOUNDATION FOR HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES IS TO FURTHER HEALTHCARE, EDUCATION, AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN EASTERN KENTUCKY AND SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA THROUGH PHILANTHROPY AND FUNDRAISING FOR APPALACHIAN REGIONAL HEALTHCARE, INC. AS A CHARITABLE, TAX EXEMPT 501(C)(3), THE FOUNDATION OFFERS DONORS THE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO INVEST IN THE HEALTH AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF THOSE LIVING IN THEIR HOME COMMUNITIES.ARH OPERATES IN AN AREA WITH SOME OF THE LARGEST UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED RATES AND PROVIDES CARE TO ALL PATIENTS REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY. IN FISCAL YEAR 2021 ALONE, ARH PROVIDED APPROXIMATELY $18.1 MILLION IN UNCOMPENSATED CARE THROUGHOUT ITS SYSTEM. ARH PROVIDES ASSISTANCE IN THE FORM OF CHARITY CARE FOR THOSE WHO QUALIFY FOR REDUCED PAYMENTS THROUGH A SLIDING FEE SCHEDULE, INTEREST-FREE TIME PAYMENTS, AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE LOANS. ARH ALSO REGULARLY WORKS WITH UNINSURED AND UNDER INSURED PATIENTS TO HELP THEM QUALIFY FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, FREE OR DISCOUNTED MEDICATION, AND REFERRALS TO PHYSICIANS WHO PROVIDE PREVENTATIVE CARE AT NO CHARGE. ARH ALSO OFFERS OUTREACH PROGRAMS TO IDENTIFY AND TREAT UNINSURED PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC DISEASES AND HELPS THEM MANAGE THEIR CONDITION(S) MORE EFFECTIVELY ON THEIR OWN.PRIOR TO THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC, THE ARH FOUNDATION'S MAJOR FUNDRAISING ACTIVITY WERE ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF CLASSICS IN KENTUCKY AND WEST VIRGINIA. THESE EVENTS RAISE FUNDS TO BE USED, IN PART, FOR THE CHARITY CARE PROVIDED TO THE UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED THROUGHOUT THE ARH SYSTEM. OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION AND IN EFFORTS TO HELP PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19, OUR TRADITIONAL ANNUAL EVENTS WERE CANCELED THIS YEAR. HOWEVER, THE FOUNDATION CONTINUED TO ASSIST PATIENTS IN OUR COMMUNITIES THROUGH OUR PATIENT ASSISTANCE FUND, OFFERING PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE, GAS CARDS TO ASSIST IN TRAVEL TO AND FROM APPOINTMENTS, HOTEL STAYS FOR THOSE UNDERGOING MULTIPLE DAYS OF TREATMENT IN A ROW, AND MADE ARRANGEMENTS WITH VARIOUS TRANSIT COMPANIES FOR PATIENTS FACING TRANSPORTATION BARRIERS.AS THE PANDEMIC CONTINUED TO SPREAD THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITIES, A TOP PRIORITY WAS TO PROTECT OUR ARH TEAM MEMBERS. NOT JUST FROM CATCHING THE VIRUS BUT ALSO FROM THE UNKNOWN CHALLENGES THIS VIRUS MIGHT EVENTUALLY LEAVE IN ITS WAKE. TO HELP SUPPORT OUR ARH TEAM MEMBERS, THE ARH FOUNDATION FOR HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES FORMED THE ARH EMPLOYEE EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND AND HAS PROVIDED NEEDED ASSISTANCE TO EMPLOYEES IN NEED THROUGHOUT THE PANDEMIC. ORIGINALLY INTENDED TO HELP TEAM MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES DIRECTLY IMPACTED FINANCIALLY BY COVID-19, IT SOON BECAME APPARENT THAT THE FUND NEEDED TO EVOLVE TO BETTER MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR ARH FAMILY. FUNDS HAVE BEEN RAISED FOR THE EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE FUND THROUGH DONATIONS AS WELL AS ONLINE FUNDRAISERS THROUGH T-SHIRT SALES AND A VIRTUAL 5-K RACE. WHETHER IT IS COVID-19, DAILY FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS, OR ASSISTING THOSE WHOSE HOMES HAVE BEEN RAVAGED BY FLOODING OR OTHER DISASTERS, THE ARH EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE FUND HAS BEEN HERE TO HELP. TO DATE, THE ARH EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE FUND COMMITTEE HAS AWARDED MORE THAN $220,000 TO MORE THAN 200 QUALIFYING ARH TEAM MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES FROM ACROSS OUR SYSTEM.
