TO PARTNER WITH UNDERSERVED RURAL VILLAGES IN MYANMAR TO DEVELOP HEALTHY COMMUNITIES. THROUGH A COLLABORATIVE PROCESS, WE EMPOWER LOCAL LEADERSHIP TO MAKE EFFECTIVE, SUSTAINABLE CHANGE FOCUSING ON EDUCATION, QUALITY HEALTH CARE, AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES.

LIVELIHOOD - AS OF JUNE 2022, 130 INDIVIDUALS ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE PIG FARM PROGRAM. PARTICIPANTS EARNED AN AVERAGE OF 427 FROM JANUARY TO JUNE 2022, WITH AN AVERAGE PROFIT OF 306. - IN ALL THE PAUK AND SOUTHERN SHAN TOWNSHIPS, 262 FARMERS HAVE DIRECTLY BENEFITED FROM PIG FARMING, WITH 956 INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILY MEMBERS BENEFITING DIRECTLY. - AT THE BEGINNING OF 2022, 89 FARMERS IN 6 VILLAGES PARTICIPATED IN THE COFFEE FARMING PROJECT. - THIS YEAR, 15 FARMERS FROM 2 VILLAGES MADE A PROFIT FROM SELLING 1,300 KG OF CHILI. THREE ADDITIONAL FARMERS FROM THREE OTHER VILLAGES STARTED FARMING THE CROP. - EIGHTEEN FARMERS FROM 4 VILLAGES RECEIVED SUPPORT TO PRODUCE OTHER NATURAL INPUTS AFTER TRAININGS AND DEMONSTRATIONS.


EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT -IN SOUTHERN SHAN, 67% OF VILLAGE WOMEN ATTENDED WOMEN'S HEALTH GROUPS (WHGS) IN PIN LAUNG TOWNSHIP AND 78% IN TAUNGGYI TOWNSHIP. - IN SOUTHERN SHAN, 84 WHGS WERE HELD IN 16 VILLAGES. - 409 WOMEN WERE INVOLVED IN SELF HELP GROUPS (SHGS) IN ALL 24 VILLAGES IN SOUTHERN SHAN AND PAUK - 13 VILLAGES ARE MAINTAINING THEIR LIBRARIES THROUGH VOLUNTEER LIBRARY COMMITTEES. - IN THE PAUK REGION, 88% OF THE CHILDREN ARE READING BOOKS. - ACROSS ALL OF THE TOWNSHIPS WHERE SHANTA GRANTS FUNDS, 675 YOUNG PEOPLE DIRECTLY BENEFITTED FROM THE LIBRARY PROJECT. - VILLAGES IN THE SOUTHERN SHAN REGION ARE STILL MAINTAINING VILLAGE SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS. THESE FUNDS SUPPORT STUDENTS ATTENDING GOVERNMENT OR LARGER TOWNSHIP SCHOOLS OUTSIDE THE VILLAGES. AT THE BEGINNING OF 2022, 234 STUDENTS AND 774 FAMILY MEMBERS BENEFITTED FROM THIS PROGRAM. - SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS WERE ACTIVE IN 10 VILLAGES, DIRECTLY BENEFITTING 164 STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS OUTSIDE THE VILLAGE. - INDIVIDUAL SHANTA DONORS CURRENTLY SPONSOR SEVENTEEN STUDENTS TO ATTEND HTOO CHUN BOARDING SCHOOL IN THE AYEYARWADY REGION OF MYANMAR.


CAPACITY BUILDING AND LEADERSHIP - STARTED FOUR NEW PARTNER VILLAGES IN SOUTHERN SHAN STATE. - SIX PARTNER VILLAGES GRADUATED IN SOUTHERN SHAN STATE. - ADDITIONALLY, US STAFF SPENT SOME TIME ANALYZING SHANTA'S DEVELOPMENT MODEL AND CONSIDERING EXPANSION INTO ANOTHER COUNTRY. - STARTED RICE BANKS RUN BY THE VDTS THAT BENEFIT 453 HOUSEHOLDS - THE CBS DIRECTLY BENEFIT 1,609 HOUSEHOLDS (78%) OF THE POPULATION) THROUGH LOANS MANAGED BY THE VDTS. OF THESE HOUSEHOLDS, 1,479 ARE FROM THE POOREST STRATA OF THE VILLAGE POPULATIONS - LOAN REPAYMENT IN EVERY VILLAGE IS 100% - AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2021, THE CUMULATIVE REVOLVING FUND AMOUNT WAS 172,381. - UP TO 49% OF THE FUNDS' INTEREST WAS USED FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS INFRASTRUCTURE, EDUCATION, LIBRARIES, AND CLEAN WATER SUPPLIES. - CUMULATIVELY THERE ARE 308 VDT MEMBERS (OF WHICH 108 ARE WOMEN) IN BOTH REGIONS.
