BRL'S GROUP HOME FOR TEEN BOYS - ONE GOAL FOR GROUP HOME RESIDENTS IS TO EXPERIENCE NORMALCY/STABILITY IN THEIR HOME ENVIRONMENT, ONLY LEAVING FOR POSITIVE REASONS SUCH AS REUNIFICATION, ADOPTION, TRANSITION TO ADULT LIVING. OUR GOAL IS THAT AT LEAST 75% EXPERIENCE SUCCESSFUL DISCHARGES OR REMAIN PLACED AT BRL. WE HAVE EXCEEDED THIS GOAL FOR MANY YEARS. DURING CALENDAR YEAR 2023, 94% (16 OUT OF 17) OF RESIDENTS EXPERIENCED SUCCESSFUL DISCHARGE OR REMAINED AT THE LODGE. AN ADDITIONAL GOAL IS FOR THE BOYS TO INCREASE THEIR ABILITY TO REGULATE THEIR EMOTIONS. WE HAVE BEEN MEASURING THIS OUTCOME SINCE 2021 AND CLOSE TO 70% OF THE BOYS BRL HAS WORKED WITH HAVE MADE IMPROVEMENTS DURING THAT TIME. NOT SURPRISINGLY, THE LONGER A YOUNG MAN IS PLACED AT BRL'S GROUP HOME, THE BETTER HIS ABILITY TO REGULATE HIS EMOTIONS BECOME. BRL PLACES HIGH IMPORTANCE ON EDUCATION. DURING THE 2023-2024 ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR, 100% OF RESIDENTS THAT BEGAN AND ENDED THE YEAR AT BRL PASSED 100% OF THEIR CORE ACADEMIC CLASSES.

OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE A SAFE HAVEN AND COUNSELING IN A THERAPEUTIC ENVIRONMENT FOR BOYS WHO ARE IN NEED OF PROTECTION, DIRECTION AND SUPERVISION, IN A MANNER THAT NUTURES THE CHILD, STRENGTHENS FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS AND ALLOWS THE COMMUNITY TO CARE FOR THEIR OWN.

PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AFTERCARE PROGRAM. YOUTH TRANSITIONING OUT OF FOSTER CARE ARE KNOWN TO EXPERIENCE DISTURBINGLY HIGH RATES OF HOMELESSNESS, INCARCERATION, EARLY PARENTING, POOR EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT, AND UNEMPLOYMENT. BRLS AFTERCARE PROGRAM LOWERS THESE RISKS BY SUPPORTING TWO TYPES OF FORMER RESIDENTS: YOUNG MEN LIVING AS ADULTS AFTER AGING OUT OF CARE AND YOUTH REUNIFIED WITH FAMILY. FOR YOUTH LIVING AS ADULTS, AFTERCARE SERVES A ROLE LIKE THAT OF PARENTING AN ADULT CHILD GUIDING,SUPPORTING, GIVING HOLIDAY GIFTS, AND MAKING CONNECTIONS FOR EDUCATION AND CAREER SUCCESS. THIRTEEN (13) INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM IN 2023 INCLUDING FORMER GROUP HOME RESIDENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS/CAREGIVERS OF THOSE FORMER RESIDENTS. IN 2023, AFTERCARE SUPPORTED PRIMARILY FORMER RESIDENTS LIVING INDEPENDENTLY BY PROVIDING REGULAR, PROACTIVE OUTREACH BY PHONE AND IMMEDIATE RESOURCES AND SUPPORT (BOTH TANGIBLE AND EMOTIONAL). IN SUPPORT OF POTENTIAL REUNIFICATION, SERVICES INCLUDED MONITORING FAMILY VISITS, COACHING PARENTS IN BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPING WORKING RELATIONSHIPS TO BUILD CONNECTION FOR SUPPORT AFTER REUNIFICATION. FROM THE SMALL DATA SET PROVIDING OUTCOMES INFORMATION, WE KNOW THAT NO AFTERCARE CLIENTS HAVE RE-ENTERED THE CHILD WELFARE SYSTEM.
