THE SANDLER CENTER FOUNDATION'S MISSION IS TO EDUCATE, ENRICH AND INSPIRE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE PERFORMING ARTS.

PILLAR I - K-12 EDUCATION: THIS PROGRAM SERVES STUDENTS IN GRADES PRE-K THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL THROUGH A ROBUST VIRTUAL ACADEMY OF DIGITAL EDUCATIONAL MATINEES THAT ARE CAREFULLY CURATED AND ALIGN WITH THE VIRGINIA STANDARDS OF LEARNING. 100% OF STUDENTS WHO EXPERIENCE A DIGITAL MATINEE RECEIVE FULL FUNDING. ALL EDUCATIONAL MATINEES HAVE ACCOMPANYING TEACHER RESOURCE GUIDES TO PROVIDE EDUCATORS ADDITIONAL TOOLS TO EXTEND LEARNING TO THE CLASSROOM. THE PERFORMANCES WE SELECTED HONOR BLACK HISTORY, WOMEN'S HISTORY, JEWISH HISTORY, ASIAN AMERICAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDERS' HISTORY, STEM, SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING, ANTI-BULLYING, MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS, MILITARY APPRECIATION AND MORE. THE VIRTUAL ACADEMY REACHED OVER 24,000 AREA STUDENTS, WITH A MAJORITY FROM LOW-INCOME HOMES AND RECEIVING FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH. WE PARTNERED WITH THE STATE BALLET OF VIRGINIA, RICHMOND BALLET, TO PROVIDE THEIR DIGITAL PERFORMANCE OF COPPELIA WITH AN INTERACTIVE INTRODUCTION TO BALLET TO APPROXIMATELY 1800 STUDENTS FROM 5 AREA SCHOOLS AT NO COST TO THE SCHOOLS.
PILLAR II: COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND OUTREACHTHE FOUNDATION COLLABORATES WITH OTHER PARTNERS TO ENHANCE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE PERFORMING ARTS. WE PARTNERED WITH THE MAYOR'S COMMISSION ON OFFSHORE WIND AND CLEAN ENERGY TO HOST A FREE KICK OFF CONCERT FEATURING GOOD SHOT JUDY BAND FOR "YNOT WINDSDAY" TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABILITY AND ECO-FRIENDLY LOCAL BUSINESSES. THE SANDLER CENTER FOUNDATION BEGAN A PARTNERSHIP TO DEVELOP THE FIRST IN THE WORLD VIRTUAL REALITY PROGRAMMING TO PROVIDE ADJUSTABLE ARTS EXPERIENCES TO NEURO-DIVERGENT AUDIENCES. IN DECEMBER 2021, THE SANDLER CENTER FOUNDATION PARTNERED WITH THE IN(HEIR)ITANCE PROJECT TO HOST A COMMUNITY DISCUSSION AROUND RACE AND CULTURAL RELATIONS THAT WAS DEVELOPED INTO A LIVE PERFORMANCE.
PILLAR 3: PERFORMANCE UNDERWRITING AND GRANTMAKINGTHE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS THE SANDLER CENTER AND THE RESIDENT COMPANIES BY UNDERWRITING PERFORMANCES AND GRANTMAKING. $40,000 WAS AWARDED TO THE VIRGINIA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, VIRGINIA ARTS FESTIVAL, AND SYMPHONICITY TO UNDERWRITE THEIR PERFORMANCES TO ENSURE THAT THE COMMUNITY IS ENRICHED BY THE PERFORMING ARTS. THESE PERFORMANCES AND GRANTS ARE FULLY FUNDED THROUGH THE SANDLER CENTER FOUNDATION AND ITS GENEROUS DONORS.
