SAFETEEN NEW MEXICO IS A YOUTH DRIVEN, COMMUNITY BASED NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT PARTNERS WITH VARIOUS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ENTITIES TO FUND AND CREATE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS THAT EDUCATE TEENS ABOUT THE REAL CONSEQUENCES OF POOR DECISIONS. OUR AREAS OF INTEREST INCLUDE RISKY DRIVING BEHAVIORS AND OTHER CRITICAL ISSUES FACING TEENS SUCH AS UNDER-AGE DRINKING, DRUG USE, DATE VIOLENCE, BODY IMAGE, DEPRESSION AND SUICIDE. SAFETEEN'S VISION IS TO CREATE AWARENESS, BY YOUTH FOR YOUTH, TO FACILITATE HEALTHY DECISION MAKING. STUDENTS AND SCHOOL STAFF WORK TOGETHER WITH SAFETEEN TO CUSTOMIZE SCHOOL-BASED PROGRAMS AS WELL AS BROAD-BASED SOCIAL MARKETING CAMPAIGNS ON TEEN SAFETY ISSUES. THE SAFETEEN ORGANIZATION EXISTS TO PREVENT INJURY, DEATH AND DISABILITY RESULTING FROM POOR TEEN CHOICES.SAFETEEN'S WORK IS CURRENTLY CONCENTRATED IN THREE AREAS:1. SCHOOL-BASED TEEN ISSUE AWARENESS PROGRAMS: WITH GUIDANCE FROM SAFETEEN, STUDENTS AND HIGH SCHOOL STAFF CO-CREATE CUSTOMIZED SCHOOL PROGRAMS THAT PRODUCE INNOVATIVE AND ENGAGING EXPERIENCES FOR STUDENTS. SCHOOLS ARE FREE TO SELECT THE TOPIC(S) OF INTEREST, WHICH MAY INCLUDE ANY ISSUE WHICH HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF A PREVIOUS SOCIAL MARKETING CAMPAIGN. 2. SAFETEEN SOCIAL MARKETING CAMPAIGNS: THESE ARE USUALLY LAUNCHED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE START OF A NEW SCHOOL YEAR, BUT MAY ALSO COINCIDE WITH PARTICULARLY RISKY TIMES OF THE YEAR ON A GIVEN TOPIC (FOR EXAMPLE, THE SAFE DRIVING ISSUE DURING PROM SEASON; DEPRESSION AROUND THE HOLIDAYS). THESE CAMPAIGNS USUALLY CONSIST OF BROADCAST AND PRINT MEDIA PARTNERSHIPS RESULTING IN THE CREATION OF A TELEVISION DOCUMENTARY SUPPORTED BY INFORMATIONAL TV, RADIO, AND PRINT ADS. WE HAVE PRODUCED NUMEROUS DOCUMENTARIES AVAILABLE ON DVD IN CONJUNCTION WITH OUR PRODUCING PARTNER, CHRISTOPHER PRODUCTIONS, INCLUDING THESE EXAMPLES: -NOT IN MY FAMILY (MENTAL HEALTH STIGMA) -SMASHED (HOW ALCOHOL AFFECTS THE ADOLESCENT BRAIN) -CRASH (THE DANGERS OF DISTRACTED DRIVING) -HIGH (THE DANGERS OF DRUGS) -RISK (WHY & HOW TEEN ARE IMPULSIVE) -DATE VIOLENCE (THE DANGERS OF VIOLENCE IN RELATIONSHIPS) -NEW MARIJUANA -HIKES & BIKERS -VAPE PROJECT (DANGERS OF USING VAPING PRODUCTS)3.
