EDUCATION - THE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM SERVES THE J1 VISA PROGRAM, WHICH ISSUES VIASA AND MONITORS HIGHLY-QUALIFIED INTERNATIONAL TEACHERS WHO COME TO THE USA TO TEACH. IT ALSO OPERATES SCHOLARSHIPS FOR EDUCATION CHOICE, AN INDIANA SCHOLARSHIP GRANTING ORGANIZATION WHICH GRANTS SCHOLARSHIPS SO THAT STUDENTS CAN ATTEND THE SCHOOL OF THEIR CHOICE. TO RAISE THE FUNDS NECESSARY TO AWARD THE SCHOLARSHIPS, THE ORGANIZATION IS ABLE TO OFFER INDIVIDUAL AND BUSINESS DONORS A STATE TAX CREDIT EQUAL TO FIFTY PERCENT (50%) OF THE AMOUNT DONATED. SINCE THE PROGRAM'S BEGINNING AT THE ORGANIZATION, THE ACADEMIC YEARS OF OPERATIONS JULY 2011 - JUNE 2022, "SCHOLARSHIPS FOR EDUCATION CHOICE" AWARDED APPROXIMATELY $50 MILLION TO OVER 9,000 INDIANA STUDENTS. THE ADMINISTRATIVE FEE INCOME VS. SCHOLARSHIP INCOME PERCENTAGE WAS 4.677% IN 2021. THE ORGANIZATION MEETS THE STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS AS STATED IN IC 20-51-3-3 SEC 3(3) AND DOES NOT USE MORE THAN TEN PERCENT OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP CONTRIBUTIONS FOR ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT - THE ORGANIZATION'S CITIZENSHIP PORTFOLIO ENGAGES CITIZENS, SCHOLARS, AND POLITICIANS TO DEVELOP COMMUNITIES WHERE ALL PEOPLE CAN THRIVE. MANY OF THE INITIATIVES HAVE A FOCUS ON CAPACITY-BUILDING FOR COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM - THE ORGANIZATION'S CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM PORTFOLIO AIMS TO HELP RESCUE AND RESTORE THOSE HURT BY CRIME AND THOSE WHOSE CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR HURTS THEMSELVES AND SOCIETY. THE ORGANIZATION IS ADVANCING NEW IDEAS FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE POLICY REFORM AND GROUND-BREAKING INNOVATIONS. A KEY INITIATIVE IS ONE HEART, A NATIONAL COLLABORATIVE INITIATIVE THAT PROVIDES MENTORS, EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAMS, AND ANCILLARY ELEMENTS TO INCARCERATED AND PROBATED YOUTH, TO EQUIP THEM WITH THE NECESSARY TOOLS AND LIFE SKILLS.
