FIELD CONSERVATION CREATES BREEDING PROGRAMS, INCLUDING BUILDING FACILITIES, FOR CRITICALLY ENDANGERED FRESHWATER TURTLES AND TORTOISES AND CONDUCTS FIELD RESEARCH. DEVELOPS CONSERVATION PLANS AND PUTS THOSE PLANS INTO ACTION. PROMOTES CONSERVATION AWARENESS AMONG LOCAL COMMUNITIES, PROVIDES SUPPORT, KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING AROUND THE WORLD. ADVOCATES FOR GREATER ENFORCEMENT OF WILDLIFE LAWS.
CONFERENCE-HOSTING AN AVERAGE OF MORE THAN 250 ATTENDEES OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS. THE SYMPOSIUM REPRESENTS THE LARGEST GATHERING OF THE NON-MARINE TURTLE BIOLOGISTS IN THE WORLD AND PROVIDES AN UNMATCHED OPPORTUNITY FOR NETWORKING AND STRATEGIZING ABOUT TURTLE CONSERVATION. IN ADDITION, THE MEETING PROVIDES A VENUE FOR EXISTING TURTLE CONSERVATION ORGANIZATION TO MEET. THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR THE TURTLE SURVIVAL ALLIANCE, TURTLE CONSERVATION FUND, AS WELL AS TFTSG STEERING COMMITTEE ALL COINCIDE WITH THE SYMPOSIUM EACH YEAR.
