Part 3 - Line 1
ENSAAF, WHICH MEANS "JUSTICE" IN MANY SOUTH ASIAN LANGUAGES, WORKS TO END IMPUNITY AND ACHIEVE JUSTICE FOR MASS STATE CRIMES IN INDIA, WITH A FOCUS ON PUNJAB, BY DOCUMENTING ABUSES, BRINGING PERPETRATORS TO JUSTICE, AND ORGANIZING SURVIVORS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
DOCUMENTATION OF UNLAWFUL KILLINGS AND DISAPPEARANCES IN PUNJAB, INDIA FROM 1984 TO 1995 FORMS THE FOUNDATION OF ENSAAF'S EFFORTS. SYSTEMATIC AND THOROUGH DOCUMENTATION ALLOWS US TO: (1) CREATE AN IMMUTABLE RECORD AND COUNTER GOVERNMENT DENIALS; (2) BUILD EVIDENCE FOR LEGAL ACCOUNTABILITY; (3) ENGAGE AND ORGANIZE SURVIVORS TO PARTICIPATE IN DOCUMENTATION INITIATIVES; AND (4) ADVOCATE BEFORE THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY THROUGH PRESENTATIONS OF THE DOCUMENTATION AND THE PUBLICATION OF REPORTS. ENSAAF'S PRIMARY METHODS OF DOCUMENTATION INCLUDE: (1) COLLECTING AND ANALYZING PUBLIC SOURCE INFORMATION, SUCH AS GOVERNMENT, LEGAL, AND NEWSPAPER RECORDS AND; (2) CONDUCTING DETAILED SURVIVOR INTERVIEWS AND LARGE-SCALE SURVEYS TO CREATE A COMPREHENSIVE, FIRST-HAND ACCOUNT OF THE ABUSES.
LEGAL ADVOCACY: ENSAAF'S LEGAL CASES AIM TO HOLD ACCOUNTABLE THE PRIMARY ARCHITECTS OF MASS STATE CRIMES IN PUNJAB AND SET PRECEDENT IN INDIA ON THE LAW OF SUPERIOR RESPONSIBILITY AND REPARATIONS.
COMMUNITY ORGANIZING & EDUCATION. ENSAAF EMPLOYS A VARIETY OF METHODS TO ORGANIZE AND EDUCATE SURVIVORS AND THEIR SUPPORTERS ON THE ISSUES OF TRUTH, JUSTICE AND REPARATIONS. THROUGH PRESENTATIONS AND WORKSHOPS IN 2019, WE REACHED SEVERAL THOUSAND PEOPLE IN THE US. ENSAAF CONTINUED TO CONDUCT VIDEOGRAPHY AND EDIT CASES OF UNLAWFUL KILLINGS OR DISAPPEARANCES FROM 1984 TO 1995 IN PUNJAB.
