SOUTH MOUNTAIN COMPANY FOUNDATION WAS CREATED BY SOUTH MOUNTAIN COMPANY TO MAKE CHARITABLE DONATIONS IN A WAY THAT REFLECTS THE VALUES AND INTERESTS OF THE OWNERS AND EMPLOYEES OF SOUTH MOUNTAIN COMPANY. THE FOUNDATION IS ONE ASPECT OF OUR COMMITMENT TO OUR COMMUNITY AND TO SOCIAL CHANGE.THE FOUNDATION DISTRIBUTES THE MAJORITY OF FUNDS TO LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS, WITH A STRONG EMPHASIS ON AFFORDABLE HOUSING, LOCAL FOOD, AND RENEWABLE ENERGY. THE REMAINING FUNDS ARE DISTRIBUTED TO ORGANIZATIONS IN THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES: CONSERVATION & ENVIRONMENT, SCHOOLS & CHILDREN, HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICES, ARTS & CULTURE, AND GLOBAL POVERTY RELIEF. WE ALSO KEEP A SET-ASIDE FOR EMERGENCY DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS. 39 GRANTS WERE DISTRIBUTED DURING THE 2021-2022 FISCAL YEAR.
MARTHA'S VINEYARD FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM: DURING 2021, THE ORGANIZATION ENTERED INTO A FISCAL SPONSORSHIP AGREEMENT WITH MARTHA'S VINEYARD CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION WASTE PROJECT "THE PROJECT". SOUTH MOUNTAIN COMPANY FOUNDATION, THE "SPONSOR", RECEIVES CONTRIBUTIONS AND GIFTS EITHER FROM THE VISION FELLOWSHIP OR FROM OTHER SOURCES, IF AWARDED, TO BE USED FOR THE PROJECT. THE SPONSOR WILL DISTRIBUTE THOSE FUNDS TO OR ON BEHALF OF THE PROJECT. THE PROJECT FOCUSES ON THE CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION WASTE (C&D WASTE) PORTION OF THE ISLAND'S WASTE STREAM. THE GOALS ARE TO QUANTIFY AND CATEGORIZE IT, EVALUATE PAST AND PRESENT PRACTICES OF HANDLING AND DISPOSAL, AND TO WORK WITH STAKEHOLDERS IN DEVELOPING PILOT PROGRAMS TO REDIRECT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE OF THE C&D WASTE TO RECYCLING, REUSE, AND OTHER INNOVATIVE WAYS OF REDUCTION.
