IN 2022, THE RMSC SERVED 21,961 STUDENTS/GROUPS THROUGH A COLLABORATIVE, HANDS-ON, MINDS-ON AND INQUIRY-BASED APPROACH TO LEARNING ABOUT SCIENCE, CULTURE, AND THE NATURAL WORLD, OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED ACROSS DISCIPLINES, ARE INFORMED BY THE NEXT GENERATION SCIENCE STANDARDS (NGSS), AND SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF REAL-WORLD 21ST CENTURY SKILLS SUCH AS CRITICAL THINKING, PROBLEM SOLVING, AND FORMING EVIDENCE-BASED CONCLUSIONS.
THE RMSC'S PROGRAMS AND OFFERINGS AT THE SCIENCE MUSEUM, STRASENBURGH PLANETARIUM, AND CUMMING NATURE CENTER COLLECTIVELY INSPIRE A BETTER FUTURE FOR ALL THROUGH ENGAGING INFORMAL SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH (STEM), NATURAL HISTORY, AND CULTURAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES, WHICH INCREASE SCIENCE LITERACY AND BUILD CAPACITY FOR SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE PROBLEM-SOLVING AND INNOVATIVE THINKING. DURING 2022 AS VISITATION RATES RETURN TO THEIR NEW NORMAL IN A POST COVID ERA WE WERE ABLE TO DIRECTLY SERVE 166,373 VISITORS AND A MEMBERSHIP LEVEL OF 6,324, THROUGH IN PERSON AND DIGITAL EXPERIENCES.
THE RMSC COLLECTS, PRESERVES, AND MAKES ACCESSIBLE MORE THAN 1.2 MILLION OBJECTS AND SPECIMENS IN FOUR BROAD CATEGORIES: NATURAL SCIENCES, REGIONAL HISTORY/HUMAN CULTURES, LIBRARY/ARCHIVES, AND TEACHING COLLECTIONS. THESE OBJECTS ARE INTEGRAL TO TELLING THE STORY OF ROCHESTER'S NATURAL, CULTURAL, AND INNOVATIVE PAST AND PRESENT. THE DEDICATED RMSC COLLECTIONS TEAM RESPONDS TO MORE THAN 2,000 INQUIRIES ANNUALLY AND CONNECTS THE PUBLIC WITH OUR OBJECTS THROUGH OUR WEBSITE AND BY INCLUDING THESE OBJECTS IN PROGRAMS AND EXHIBITS TO PROVIDE CONTEXT AND CONNECTIONS, TELLING STORIES AND ADDING LAYERS THAT BRING MUSEUM EXPERENCES TO LIFE..
