TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND CAREER RESOURCES FOR INDEPENDENT NONFICTION AND FREELANCE WRITERS. THE SOCIETY IS AFFILIATED WITH THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF JOURNALISTS & AUTHORS, INC. (ASJA), WHICH IS A PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT NONFICTION WRITERS.

ANNUAL AND REGIONAL CONFERENCES ARE HELD TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.
PUBLIC SUPPORT AND GRANTS ARE RECEIVED TO PROVIDE AWARDS AND GRANTS TO CERTAIN SELECTED INDIVIDUALS THROUGH THE SOCIETY'S EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION.
THE SOCIETY HAS ESTABLISHED A WRITERS EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND (WEAF) THAT HELPS ESTABLISHED FREELANCE WRITERS WHO, BECAUSE OF ILLNESS, DISABILITY, A NATURAL DISASTER, OR AN EXTRAORDINARY PROFESSIONAL CRISIS ARE UNABLE TO WORK. THE WEAF FUND AWARDS GRANTS TO THESE ELIGIBLE INDIVIDUALS.
THE EISENBERG, ROBINSON AND ROTH RESERVE FUNDS ARE SET ASIDE TO PROVIDE AWARDS TO CERTAIN QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALS BASED ON ACHIEVEMENT.
