THE RITA ALLEN FOUNDATION INVESTS IN EMERGING IDEAS IN SCIENCE, SOCIAL INNOVATION, AND INFORMED CIVIC ENGAGEMENT. THE FOUNDATION WORKS WITH GRANT RECIPIENTS TO BUILD CAPACITY BEYOND FINANCIAL SUPPORT, INCLUDING PROVIDING VALUE-ADDED ACTIVITIES THROUGH CONFERENCES, PUBLISHING, AND CONTRIBUTING TO RESEARCH TO HELP GUIDE THE WORK OF EMERGING LEADERS AND ORGANIZATIONS, AS WELL AS OFFERING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FOR GRANT RECIPIENTS. IN 2021, THE FOUNDATION HOSTED VIRTUAL MEETINGS OF CURRENT AND FORMER RITA ALLEN FOUNDATION SCHOLARS FOCUSING ON SHARING THEIR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, AND THE FOUNDATION CO-ORGANIZED A CONVENING OF RESEARCHERS AND PHILANTHROPISTS TO ADVANCE BASIC RESEARCH IN THE NEUROBIOLOGY OF PAIN.
THE RITA ALLEN FOUNDATION IS COMMITTED TO DEVELOPING THE KNOWLEDGE AND COLLABORATION OF THE PHILANTHROPIC SECTOR AND THE FIELDS IN WHICH IT WORKS IN ORDER TO BETTER ADDRESS COMPLEX PROBLEMS. IN 2021, THE FOUNDATION CONDUCTED RESEARCH ON THE INTERACTION BETWEEN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, MEDIA, PHILANTHROPY, AND CIVIL SOCIETY. THIS RESEARCH WAS SHARED VIA A FIELD NEWSLETTER AND PARTICIPATION IN MEETINGS CONVENED WITH THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES AND OTHER PARTNERS, AS WELL AS AN ARTICLE IN THE STANFORD SOCIAL INNOVATION REVIEW. IN 2021, THE FOUNDATION ALSO ORGANIZED AND SUPPORTED A COHORT OF FELLOWS TO DEVELOP MORE EFFECTIVE SCIENCE COMMUNICATION RESEARCH AND PRACTICE. IN SUPPORT OF THE FELLOWS, THE FOUNDATION DEVELOPED BRIEFING PAPERS, RESOURCE COLLECTIONS, AND A SERIES OF VIRTUAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES. THE FOUNDATION ALSO LED AND INVESTED IN DEVELOPING COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS AMONG FUNDERS FOCUSED ON SCIENCE, CIVIC PARTICIPATION, AND AN EFFECTIVE SOCIAL SECTOR.
