THE MAURICE SENDAK FOUNDATION IS DEVOTED TO PROMOTING GREATER PUBLIC INTEREST IN AND THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE LITERARY, VISUAL,AND PERFORMING ARTS. DURING 2018, THIS GOAL WAS MET BY COMPLETING WORK ON THE SENDAK HOUSE AND ARCHIVE. THE ARCHIVE CONTAINS ILLUSTRATIONS, MANUSCRIPTS AND RELATED MATERIALS THAT REPRESENT A WIDE RANGE OF SENDAK'S VISUAL CREATIVE OUTPUT. IT ALSO HOUSES SENDAK'S ART COLLECTION. DURING 2019, THE PRESIDENT OF THE MAURICE SENDAK FOUNDATION, LYNN CAPONERA DID APPROVE AN OVERALL INVENTORY OF THE ART AND OBJECTS IN THE SENDAK HOME. IN ADDITION, MAURICE SENDAK'S EARLY PAINTINGS, WHICH WERE NOT WELL-MAINTAINED DURING HIS LIFETIME, ARE UNDERGOING EFFORTS TO CONSERVE AND STABILIZE HIS EARLY WORKS OF ART. A CATALOGUING OF SENDAK'S COLLECTION OF BOOKS IS ALSO ONGOING. ALL OF THESE EFFORTS ARE MEANT TO IMPROVE THE SENDAK HOUSE & ARCHIVE IN TIME FOR ITS SCHEDULED OPENING IN MID-2022.IT WILL BE A RESOURCE AND RESEARCH CENTER FOR SCHOLARS,ARTISTS,AND TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
