HERE BUILDS AN INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY THAT NURTURES ARTISTS OF ALL BACKGROUNDS AS THEY DISRUPT CONVENTIONAL EXPECTATIONS TO CREATE INNOVATIVE PERFORMANCES IN THEATRE, DANCE, MUSIC, PUPPETRY, MEDIA, AND VISUAL ART.

HERE'S ARTISTIC PROGRAMMING IS ORGANIZED UNDER TWO UMBRELLAS: HERE PRODUCES, WHICH INCLUDES THE HERE ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM (HARP) AND HERE & BACK, AND HERE PRESENTS, WHICH INCLUDES PROTOTYPE FESTIVAL, DREAM MUSIC PUPPETRY, AND SUBLETSERIES@HERE.DURING THE 2022-23 SEASON, MORE THAN 500 ARTISTS BROUGHT 35 PROJECTS TO LIFE SEEN BY NEARLY 20,000 AUDIENCE MEMBERS IN NEW YORK CITY.HARP IS A MULTI-YEAR ARTIST RESIDENCY THAT PROVIDES UP TO $125,000 IN COMMISSIONING FUNDS, PROJECT DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT, AND CAREER PLANNING ALONG WITH A PREMIERE PRODUCTION. DURING FY2023, THE HARP COHORT ARTISTS RECEIVED YEAR-ROUND GUIDANCE AND ASSISTANCE FROM HERE STAFF AND OPPORTUNITIES TO SHOWCASE WORK IN PROCESS AT HERE RAW (RESIDENT ARTIST WORKS), OUR ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF WORKSHOP PRESENTATIONS BY HARP ARTISTS, AND THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER LOCAL NONPROFITS. THREE HARP PROJECTS WERE PREMIERED BY HERE, GRADUATING ITS ARTISTS FROM OUR RESIDENCY PROGRAM: MINOR THEATRE'S MARIE IT'S TIME (SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2022), GELSEY BELL'S M??N?? (JANUARY 2023), AND SACHIYO TAKAHASHI AND GAMIN'S THE EMOTIONS (MARCH 2023). HERE & BACK SUPPORTS PROJECTS DEVELOPED AND PRODUCED BY HERE LED BY ESTABLISHED MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTISTS WITH DEEP CONNECTIONS WITH OUR COMPANY. PROGRAMMING DURING FY2023 INCLUDED THIS AND THAT BY PHIL SOLTANOFF AND STEVEN WENDT, CO-PRODUCED WITH THE BUSHWICK STARR AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2022).OUR PROTOTYPE 2023 FESTIVAL INCLUDED EIGHT MUSIC BASED EVENTS PERFORMED IN SEVEN MANHATTAN VENUES FROM JANUARY 6 TO 15, 2023 INCLUDING NOTE TO A FRIEND BY COMPOSER/LIBRETTIST DAVID LANG (WORLD PREMIERE, JAPAN SOCIETY); IN OUR DAUGHTER'S EYES BY PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING COMPOSER DU YUN AND LIBRETTIST/DIRECTOR MICHAEL JOSEPH MCQUILKEN (NEW YORK PREMIERE, BARUCH PERFORMING ARTS CENTER); A DOUBLE BILL OF TRADE AND MARY MOTORHEAD BY COMPOSER EMMA O'HALLORAN AND LIBRETTIST MARK O'HALLORAN (WORLD PREMIERE, ABRONS ARTS CENTER); MARCHITA, A WORLD PREMIERE THEATRICALIZED ALBUM CONCERT BY SILVANA ESTRADA (HERE DOROTHY B. WILLIAMS THEATRE. SUBLETSERIES@HERE PROVIDES DISCOUNT RENTAL RATES TO SMALL COMPANIES AND INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS SO THEY MAY REALIZE THEIR PRODUCTIONS ON AN OFF-BROADWAY STAGE. PROJECTS WERE IDENTIFIED THROUGH A FREE AND OPEN APPLICATION PROCESS. DURING FY23, SUBLETSERIES SUPPORTED 20 PRODUCTIONS AND THREE FESTIVALS, WHICH ALSO RECEIVED FREE OR DEEPLY DISCOUNTED ACCESS TO TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT FOR THE STAGE. PROJECTS INCLUDED COLT COUER (KAREEM FAHMY'S DODI & DIANA), I AM A SLOW TIDE (JACOB PERKINS' THE GOLD ROOM), AND CITY LYRIC OPERA (UNCOVERED WITH MUSIC BY LORI LAITMAN AND LIBRETTO BY LEAH LAX).
