Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
DESPITE THE OBSTACLES THAT COVID PRESENTED IN 2021, THE FOUNDATION CONTINUED WITH ITS 2 MAIN DOCUMENTARY PRODUCTIONS "IMAGINING THE INDIANX AND "BEN HECHT" IMAGINING THE INDIAN EXAMINES THE NEGATIVE USE OF NATIVE AMERICAN NAMES AND SYMBOLS IN AMERICAN SPORTS AND SOCIETY. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF INTERVIEWS WERE CONDUCTED UNDER STRICT COVID PROTOCOLS WHICH NECESSITATED THE SUCCESSFUL USE OF NEW PRODUCTION METHODOLOGIES. IN ADDITION TO INTERVIEWS, EXTENSIVE RESEARCH OF ARCHIVAL FILM, PRINT AND PHOTOGRAPHY WAS CONDUCTED FOR USE IN THE FINISHED FILM. CONCURRENT WITH THESE ACTIVITIES, THE FILM WAS BEING EDITED, BRINGING TOGETHER THE INTERVIEWS WITH THE SUPPORTING MEDIA TO PRODUCE A POWERFUL DOCUMENTARY FILM ADVOCATING FOR CHANGES IN HOW NATIVE AMERICAN NAMES AND SYMBOLS ARE USED THROUGHOUT SOCIETY. SIGNIFICANT FUNDING WAS RAISED AT THE END OF 2021, WHICH PROVIDED THE FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO COMPLETE THE FILM IN 2022. BEN HECHT IS ALSO UNDER PRODUCTION WITH COMMITTED FUNDING. THIS DOCUMENTARY FILM WILL EXAMINE HIS LIFE AS A SCREENWRITER, DIRECTOR, PLAYWRIGHT, JOURNALIST AND NOVELIST. SIMILAR TO "IMAGINING THE INDIAN", COVID HAD AN IMPACT ON HOW WORK PROGRESSED, BUT NEVERTHELESS EXTENSIVE RESEARCH WAS ABLE TO BE CONDUCTED, INTERVIEWEES WERE IDENTIFIED AND PRELIMINARY INTERVIEWS CONDUCTED. OTHER PROJECTS UNDERWAY INCLUDE THE DIGITIZATION OF "THE PARTISANS OF VILNA" USING THE ORIGINAL FILM STOCK, AND A SHORT DOCUMENTARY "PISSED OFF" WHICH EXAMINES THE LACK OF BATHROOM FACILITIES EXPERIENCED BY FEMALE MEMBERS OF CONGRESS ON CAPITOL HILL IN WASHINGTON, DC.
