RECREATION THERAPY - OPERATION SANTA CLAUS AT JFK AIRPORT, PORT AUTHORITY HANGER #19: OVER 4,000 SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN ARE ENTERTAINED IN A HANGAR PROVIDED BY THE PORT AUTHORITY OF NY & NJ. THEY ARE SERVED SNACKS AND REFRESHMENTS, RECEIVE TOYS AND WATCH MACY'S SANTA CLAUS ARRIVE VIA DELTA AIR LINES AIRCRAFT WHILE THEY CELEBRATE THE SEASON. IT IS A SPECTACULAR EXPERIENCE. DONATED MATERIALS, FACILITIES, AND EQUIPMENT TOTALING $53,200 ARE DETAILED ON SCH O.


RECREATION THERAPY - AMUSEMENT PARKS, MUSEUMS & OTHER OUTINGS: CHILDREN ENJOY GAMES, RIDES AND CLOWNS AT ZOOS AND AMUSEMENT PARKS ACROSS THE 5 BOROUGHS OF NYC. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS: AWARDED TO A STUDENT AT POLY PREP SCHOOL WHO VOLUNTEERS AT A COMMUNITY MAYORS' EVENT AND SUBMITS AN ESSAY ON COMMUNITY SERVICE WHICH IS JUDGED BY A COMMITTEE OF POLY PREP EDUCATORS AND THE CHIEF MAYOR. ADDITIONALLY UP TO FIVE FINANCIALLY NEEDY CHILDREN FROM NYC DOE DISTRICT 75 ARE AWARDED A SCHOLARSHIP OF UP TO $2000 TO PAY FOR UP TO TWO WEEKS OF SLEEP AWAY SUMMER CAMP. THE FAMILY OF THE CHILD CHOOSES THE CAMP BASED ON THE CHILD'S SPECIAL NEEDS. THE AWARDEES, ONE FROM EACH BOROUGH, ARE RECOMMENDED BY THE DISTRICT 75 STAFF AND APPROVED BY THE COMMUNITY MAYORS CAMP SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE.
