NPF WAS FOUNDED IN MEMORY OF CELEBRATED JAZZ VIOLINIST, EDUCATOR AND HUMANITARIAN, NOEL POINTER. AS AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN MR POINTER BELIEVED THAT LEARNING TO PLAY A STRING INSTRUMENT IS A WONDERFUL ACTIVITY AND A TRANSFORMATIVE EXPERIENCE THAT OPENS UP NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN, PARTICULARLY CHILDREN IN THE INNER CITY AND DISADVANTAGED AREAS. NPF CURRENTLY PROVIDES EDUCATION TO MORE THAN 1,000 CHILDREN.

THE NOEL POINTER FOUNDATION (NPF) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1995 AS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT CORPORATION TO CREATE, MANAGE AND GROW STRING MUSIC PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE NEW YORK METROPOLITAN AREA. NPF'S MISSION IS TO ENRICH SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN'S MUSICAL, CULTURAL AND ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE, INFUSING THEM WITH A POSITIVE SENSE OF WHO THEY ARE AND A BOUNDLESS SENSE OF WHAT THEY CAN BECOME.


NYC DEPT OF EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND MENTORING FOR LOW INCOME URBAN FAMILIES. MUSIC INSTRUCTION FOR STRING INSTRUMENTS IN AFTER SCHOOL AND DAY PROGRAMS MAINTAINED AT PUBLIC SCHOOLS. TEACH VARIOUS MUSIC PROGRAMS SUCH AS: SITE READING, THEORY, APPRECIATION, HISTORY, TECHNIQUE AND PERFORMANCE PERSPECTIVES.
