SAFE HAVEN -THIS IS A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM BEGUN IN 2007 AND INCREASINGLY - ENLARGING IN SCOPE AND SERVICES 1. PROVIDING AID TO ABUSED ANIMALS BY WORKING WITH NASSAU COUNTY DA ANIMAL CRIME UNIT TO PROVIDE SHELTER, MEDICAL CARE, REHABILATATION AND REHOMING OF THE ANIMAL VICTIM OF ABUSE 2.AIDING ELDERLY PET OWNERS OR THOSE WITH FEW OR NO FINANCIAL RESOURCES BY PROVIDING MEDICAL CARE IN SITUATIONS WHERE THE PET WOULD OTHERWISE HAVE BEEN EUTHANIZED OR SUFFER CONTINUOUSLY DUE TO THE OWNERS INABILITY TO PAY. 3. PROVIDING SPAY AND NEUTER SERVICES TO THOSE WHO CAN NOT OTHERWISE AFFORD THEM.
THE ANIMAL LOVERS LEAGUE SAFE HAVEN PROGRAM HAS EXPANDED OUTREACH TO THE TOWN OF ISLIP POPULATION 377,000 ANIMAL SHELTER. THE TOWN HAS A VERY LARGE PERCENTAGE OF RESIDENTS WHO LIVE AT OR BELOW THE POVERTY LEVEL. WE HAVE CO-FUNDED AND ALSO TRAINED VOLUNTEERS TO PROVIDE FREE SPAY-NEUTER SERVICES TO THE TOWN WHERE NONE EXISTED, BEGINNING IN DEC. 2016. THANKS TO OUR PROGRAM 1531 ANIMALS WILL NOT BE BREEDING AND ADDING TO THE POPULATION OF UNWANTED AND HOMELESS PET. SAFE HAVEN ALSO FUNDS MEDICAL CARE AND SENDS FOOD FOR THE PETS OF RESIDENTS, MOST OFTEN ELDERLY, WHO HAVE DIFFICULTY PROVIDING ENOUGH FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR PETS.
