THE NYS OFFICE OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES CONTRACTS WITH THE CHILD CARE COUNCIL OF NASSAU TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING SERVICES: CONSUMER EDUCATION, CHILD CARE REFERRAL SERVICES, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO DEVELOP AND EXPAND REGULATED PROGRAMS, ADMINISTRATION OF HEALTH AND SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT GRANTS TO REGULATED AND LEGALLY EXEMPT PROVIDERS, PHONE AND INTENSIVE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO PROVIDERS, SERVE AS LEAD ENROLLMENT AGENCY FOR LEGALLY EXEMPT PROVIDERS AND HEALTH CONSULTATION.
CARES FUNDING PROGRAM PROVIDED BY OCFS: CARES ACT FUNDING IS AVAILABLE TO ASSIST CHILD CARE PROVIDERS THROUGH NY FORWARD GRANTS AS THEY ADJUST THEIR PROGRAMS AMIDST THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THE FUNDING IS AWARDED TO ASSIST CHILD CARE PROVIDERS WITH REOPENING OR RESTRUCTURING THEIR PHYSICAL PLANS TO MEET NEW SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIREMENTS. ADDITIONALLY, THE COUNCIL IS PROVIDING CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE TO INCOME-ELIGIBLE ESSENTIAL WORKERS AT NO COST. ESSENTIAL WORKERS USING A LICENSED OR REGISTERED CHILD CARE PROVIDER RECEIVE A SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE COST OF CARE AS LONG AS THE FUNDS TO SUPPORT IT ARE AVAILABLE. ADDITIONALLY. THE PROGRAM OFFERED TEMPORARY OPERATING GRANTS TO CHILD CARE PROVIDERS DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC.
TO ACT AS A SPONSOR OF DAY CARE HOMES FOR ADMINISTRATION OF THE NYS CHILD AND ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM. IN 2020-2021 THE CHILD CARE COUNCIL OF NASSAU ADMINISTERED AN AVERAGE OF 313 CLAIMS FOR ENROLLED DAY CARE HOMES EACH MONTH WHO PROVIDED MEALS TO APPROXIMATELY 4,000 CHILDREN THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY. ALL PARTICIPATING PROVIDERS RECEIVED THREE UNANNOUNCED VISITS ANNUALLY.
