PUBLIC AUDIENCES SERVED: THE CONNECTICUT SCIENCE CENTER CONTINUED TO FOLLOW COVID RELATED ON-SITE PROTOCOLS, INCLUDING LIMITING THE NUMBER OF VISITORS PERMITTED IN THE BUILDING. WITH THE HELP OF A STATE SPONSORED FREE SUMMER INITIATIVE, THE SCIENCE CENTER SERVED 212,000 VISITORS ON SITE, 30% LESS CUSTOMERS THAN 2019 WITH THE SLOWER RETURN OF FIELD TRIPS, OUTREACH PROGRAMS AND OTHER ON-SITE EVENTS, THE SCIENCE CENTER CONTINUED TO DEVELOP AND PROVIDE VIRTUAL PROGRAMS THAT WERE DELIVERED TO OVER 13,743 INDIVIDUALS, PROGRAMMING INCLUDED 4 VIRTUAL STEM CAREER SHOWCASES AND 10 NEW CLASSROOM CONNECTIONS, A STEM CAREER PROGRAM FOR SCHOOLS.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS:1,015 TEACHERS PARTICIPATED IN THE SCIENCE CENTER'S PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS THAT ARE ALIGNED WITH BOTH THE CT STATE SCIENCE FRAMEWORK STANDARDS AND THE NEXT GENERATION SCIENCE STANDARDS (NGSS). WHETHER TEACHERS ARE PROVIDING IN-PERSON, DISTANCE LEARNING OR A HYBRID, THE SCIENCE CENTER'S PROGRAMS ARE FLEXIBLE AND SUPPORTIVE TO MEET EDUCATOR'S NEED. 75% OF OUR SERVICES WERE VIRTUAL IN 2021. WE SUPPORTED 14 DISTRICTS WITH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, 6 OF THEM WERE ALLIANCE DISTRICTS.THE SCIENCE CENTER EXTENDED 2,026 DISCOUNTED ADMISSION TICKETS IN 2021 TO TEACHERS SO THEY CAN CONSIDER HOW TO INCORPORATE THE SCIENCE CENTER INTO THEIR CURRICULA.THE SCIENCE CENTER MAKES AVAILABLE THROUGH ITS WEBSITE FREE EDUCATOR RESOURCES AND A FACEBOOK HUB FOR TEACHERS TO SHARE AND CONNECT WITH OTHER EDUCATORS IN THE COMMUNITY.
