TRANSPORTATION - CIDER PROVIDES ESSENTIAL, DOOR-TO-DOOR TRANSPORTATION TO CHAMPLAIN ISLAND SENIOR AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES USING ITS OWN DRIVERS AND VEHICLES AND BY COORDINATING THE WORK OF VOLUNTEERS USING THEIR OWN VEHICLES. MOST OF THE TRIP DESTINATIONS ARE TO ST. ALBANS OR THE GREATER BURLINGTON AREA AND INCLUDE TRIPS FOR MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS, ADULT DAY PROGRAMS, SENIOR MEAL PROGRAMS AND PERSONAL, FAMILY AND SHOPPING TRIPS. CIDER PROVIDES THOUSANDS OF TRIPS TO HUNDREDS OF INDIVIDUALS EACH YEAR.
SENIOR MEALS PROGRAM - WITH EXPANDED FUNDING FROM THE UNITED WAY AND DIRECT DONATIONS TO THE PROGRAM, CIDER OPERATES A SENIOR COMMUNITY MEAL PROGRAM KNOW AS THE NEIGHBOR. NUTRITIOUS HOME COOKED MEALS ARE PREPARED BY CIDERS CHEF WITH HOME HELP AND ASSISTANCE FROM VOLUNTEERS AND PROVIDED FOUR TIMES WEEKLY AT A LOCAL CHURCH AND THROUGH THE MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM. IN A NORMAL YEAR, NEARLY 5,000 MEALS ARE SERVED.
OTHER PROGRAMS - THE MONTHLY CIDER PRESS NEWSLETTER, RAMP, BUILDING AND OTHER ACCESSIBILITY PROJECTS, A SPECIAL NEEDS EQUIPMENT LENDING CLOSET, DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES FOR A FUTURE HOUSING PROJECT, AND A NUMBER OF HEALTH, FITNESS AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.
