THE RHODE ISLAND COUNCIL FOR THE HUMANITIES (THE COUNCIL) MARKED SEVERAL SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING THE 2021 FISCAL YEAR, CONTINUING TO FULFILL ITS MISSION TO SEED, SUPPORT, AND STRENGTHEN PUBLIC HISTORY, CULTURAL HERITAGE, CIVIC EDUCATION, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT BY AND FOR ALL RHODE ISLANDERS. THE COUNCIL WAS SUPPORTED THROUGH FEDERAL FUNDS, FOUNDATION GRANTS, INDIVIDUAL GIFTS, AND CORPORATE SPONSORSHIPS.THE COUNCIL'S STANDARD GRANTMAKING PROGRAM AWARDED $188,704 TO 34 GRANT PROJECTS ACROSS THE STATE. IN SEPTEMBER 2021, THE COUNCIL ALSO LAUNCHED RI CHARG, A NEW GRANT PROGRAM WITH THE RHODE ISLAND STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS IN SUPPORT OF ARTS, HUMANITIES, AND CULTURAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AFFECTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN RHODE ISLAND.
