STARFINDER FOUNDATION USES SOCCER TO INSPIRE SOCIAL CHANGE AND TRANSFORM THE LIVES OF UNDERSERVED YOUTH, ONE KID AT A TIME.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
STARFINDER SERVES APPROXIMATELY 900 YOUTH ANNUALLY AT ITS FACILITY AND NEIGHBORHOOD SITES. PROGRAMS INCLUDE: AN INTENSIVE, YEAR-ROUND HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM; SUMMER CAMPS AND NEIGHBORHOOD OUTREACH TO YOUNGER CHILDREN; AND A GROWING ARRAY OF MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS, INCLUDING AFTER SCHOOL CLINICS AND WEEKEND LEAGUES. SOCCER IS THE MAGNET; SUCCESS IN SCHOOL, IN THE COMMUNITY, AND IN PURSUIT OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT IS THE GOAL. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF STARFINDER'S HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS HAVE GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL AND 89% HAVE CONTINUED ON TO POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION (COMPARED TO AVERAGES OF 69% AND 55%, RESPECTIVELY,FOR THE PHILADELPHIA SCHOOL DISTRICT.) ** STARFINDER'S COMMUNITY OF SUPPORTERS INCLUDES INDIVIDUAL DONORS, BUSINESSES AND CORPORATIONS, AND PRIVATE FOUNDATIONS. OUR UNIQUE FUNDRAISING EVENTS INCLUDE COCKTAILS WITH A KICK!, A COCKTAIL PARTY ON OUR INDOOR TURF FIELD; AND STARFINDER CUPS, CORPORATE-SPONSORED ADULT SOCCER TOURNAMENTS AND NETWORKING EVENTS. WE ALSO RELY ON THE STABLE UNRESTRICTED INCOME GENERATED BY OUR FACILITY (E.G., FIELD RENTALS, BIRTHDAY PARTIES, AND SIMILAR USES.) DURING NON PROGRAM HOURS TO FUND STARFINDER'S MISSION AND PROGRAM SERVICES. ** VOLUNTEERS ASSIST WITH PROGRAM NEEDS, EVENTS, AND FACILITY PROJECTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
