CAMBRIDGE EL SALVADOR SISTER CITY PROJECT - THE CAMBRIDGE EL SALVADOR SISTER CITY COMMITTEE HAS BEEN ESPECIALLY ACTIVE IN SUPPORT OF THE SISTER CITY COMMUNITY AND THE LARGER RURAL ORGANIZING SECTORS. THE SOCIAL MOVEMENTS IN EL SALVADOR HAVE FACED INTENSE REPRESSION IN THE PAST YEAR AS THE GOVERNMENT HAS MOVED TOWARDS CONSOLIDATING POWER IN THE JUDICIARY AND THE LEGISLATION. GOVERNMENT CONTROL OVER THE MEDIA PROJECTING ITS OWN NARRATIVE HAS MADE THE ROLE OF CAMBRIDGE AND US SISTER CITIES CRITICAL IN GETTING THE WORD OUT OF A COUNTER-NARRATIVE. WE SPONSORED A JANUARY VIRTUAL FORUM "VOICES FROM THE GROUND: URGENT ALERTS FROM EL SALVADOR" FEATURING HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST BENJAMIN CUELLAR AND OTHER VOICES FROM EL SALVADOR; A FEBRUARY VIRTUAL BOOK TALK WITH JOURNALIST ROBERTO LOVATO ON HIS ACCLAIMED MEMOIR UNFORGETTING: A MEMOIR OF FAMILY, MIGRATION, GANGS AND REVOLUTION IN THE AMERICAS; 2 MARCH WALK-A-THONS TO MARK THE 42ND ANNIVERSARY OF THE ASSASSINATION OF ARCHBISHOP (NOW SAINT) OSCAR ROMERO AND E-MAIL OUTREACH TO GET SIGN-UPS FOR THE RAPID RESPONSE URGENT ACTION NETWORK.
