THE MISSION OF CBIC IS TO PROVIDE PATHWAYS TO ASSESS AND MAINTAIN INFECTION PREVENTION COMPETENCY.

EXAM ADMINISTRATION: CBIC OFFERS VOLUNTARY PERIODIC CERTIFICATION EXAMS FOR ALL INFECTION CONTROL PROFESSIONALS MEETING EDUCATIONAL AND PRACTICE REQUIREMENTS. THE PURPOSE OF THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS IS TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC BY PROVIDING A STANDARDIZED MEASUREMENT OF CURRENT BASIC KNOWLEDGED NEEDED FOR PERSONS PRACTICING INFECTION CONTROL, TO ENCOURAGE INDIVIDUAL GROWTH AND STUDY, THEREBY PROMOTING PROFESSIONALISM AMONG INFECTION CONTROL PROFESSIONALS AND TO FORMALLY RECOGNIZE INFECTION CONTROL PROFESSIONALS WHO FULFILL THE REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION. CBIC'S CERTIFICATION PROGRAM IS ACCREDITED BY THE NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR CERTIFICATION AGENCIES.


RECERTIFICATION EXAMINATION: IS AN OPEN BOOK WEB-BASED EXAM AVAILABLE ONLY TO RE-CERTIFIERS. IT IS DESIGNED FOR THE CONDIDATE TO COMPLETE AT HIS OR HER OWN PACE WITHIN THE CALENDAR YEAR THAT THE CANDIDATE IS DUE FOR RECERTIFICATION. RECERTIFYING CANDIDATES MAY RECERTIFY EITHER BY PASSING A WEB-BASED RECERTIFICATION EXAMINATION OR THROUGH CONTINUING EDUCATION, HEREBY REFERRED TO AS INFECTION PREVENTION UNITS (IPUS).
