WIDE HORIZONS FOR CHILDREN IS DEDICATED TO THE WELL-BEING AND SECURITY OF VULNERABLE AND ORPHANED CHILDREN WORLDWIDE.

DURING THE REPORTING YEAR, WHFC CONTINUED PROGRAMMING FOCUSED ON ORPHAN CARE AND FAMILY PRESERVATION. WITH THE PANDEMIC LINGERING ON, WHFC CONTINUED TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY FEEDING AS PART OF OUR PROGRAMMING FOR ABOUT 5,000 INDIVIDUALS, AS WELL AS ONGOING SUPPORT TO THE RESIDENTS OF THE WAR TORN TIGRAY REGION IN ETHIOPIA. OUR OPERATIONAL FUNDING OF SEVEN ORPHANAGES IN SIX COUNTRIES BENEFITTED OVER 400 CHILDREN WHO HAVE A LOW LIKELIHOOD OF ADOPTION OR FOSTER CARE SOLUTIONS. WITH THIS FUNDING, CHILDREN RECEIVED PROPER NUTRITION, STABLE AND TRAINED CAREGIVERS, AND EDUCATIONAL, MEDICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES. HUNDREDS OF SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN WERE PROVIDED WITH PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE THERAPY AND PROGRAMMING TO ENHANCE THEIR DEVELOPMENT AND QUALITY OF LIFE. IN MOLDOVA, 80 ORPHANS BENEFITTED FROM THE INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION FROM THEIR OWN GRANNY, OFFERING LOVE AND PROMOTING STRONG ATTACHMENT AND FINE AND GROSS MOTOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT. WE CONTINUED SUPPORT TO OLDER ORPHANS IN EASTERN EUROPE SO THAT THEY COULD RECEIVE SKILLS TRAINING, EDUCATION AND CONFIDENCE FOR AN INDEPENDENT LIFE UPON LEAVING THE ORPHANAGE. FAMILY PRESERVATION INITIATIVES CONTINUED TO FOCUS ON HEALTH CARE, NUTRITION, EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WORK. OVER 1,500 FAMILIES FROM A SLUM COMMUNITY IN INDIA RECEIVED COUNSELING AND SUPPORT SERVICES. WHFC CONTINUED TO PARTNER WITH TWO MEDICAL FACILITIES IN ETHIOPIA (BOTH BUILT BY WHFC) THROUGH ONGOING MEDICAL MISSIONS WITH A GOAL OF BUILDING CAPACITY AND IMPROVING ACCESS AND QUALITY OF TREATMENT AND CARE OPTIONS FOR THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. CHILD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMS AIMED AT FAMILY PERMANENCE IN ETHIOPIA, GUATEMALA AND INDIA BENEFITTED OVER 843 VULNERABLE CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES SO THAT FAMILY UNITS CAN BE STABILIZED AND REMAIN INTACT. THIS YEAR IN GUATEMALA, WHFC BUILT A COMMUNITY CENTER AND MEDICAL CLINIC TO PROVIDE WRAP AROUND MEDICAL, NUTRITIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL SERVICES TO FAMILIES IN OUR SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM AND THE BROADER COMMUNITY, SUPPORTING AROUND 2,000 INDIVIDUALS. IN TOTAL DURING FISCAL YEAR 2022, OUR ORPHAN CARE AND FAMILY PRESERVATION WORK POSITIVELY IMPACTED THE LIVES OF 45,000 CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES AROUND THE WORLD.
WHFC PROVIDES A RANGE OF ADOPTION RELATED SERICES TO CLIENTS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES. EXPECTANT PARENTS CONSIDERING AN ADOPTIVE PLACEMENT OF THEIR UNBORN CHILD RECEIVE COUNSELING TO SUPPORT THEM IN MAKING THE BEST DECISION FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR CHILD. ADOPTIVE PARENTS RECEIVE COUNSELING AND SUPPORT FROM HOME STUDY THROUGH POST PLACEMENT SERVICES. WHFC PROVIDES ADOPTION PLACEMENT SERVICES FROM SIX COUNTRIES INCLUDING THE UNITED STATES. DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2022, 50 CHILDREN CAME HOME TO THEIR ADOPTIVE FAMILIES. TW0 CHILD-FOCUSED ADOPTION SUBSIDIES WERE PROVIDED TO ASSIST FAMILIES WITH THE COSTS OF ADOPTING OLDER AND HARD TO PLACE CHILDREN WHO HAVE SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITIONS.
WIDE HORIZONS CONTINUES ITS SUPPORT OF BIRTH FAMILIES, ADOPTIVE CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES AFTER PLACEMENT THROUGH POST-ADOPT SERVICES. POST ADOPT SERVICES RANGE FROM LETTER DELIVERY TO BIRTH FAMILIES, REFERRAL SERVICES, AND SUPPORT FOR TRAVEL BACK TO A CHILDS BIRTH COUNTRY. DURING THE REPORTING YEAR, THE ORGANIZATION SUPPORTED HUNDREDS OF FAMILIES THROUGH THESE SERVICE OFFERINGS.
