THE MONARCH SCHOOL OF NEW ENGLAND BRINGS INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL, PHYSICAL, MEDICAL AND BEHAVIORAL DISABILITIES INTO THE MAINSTREAM OF EVERYDAY LIFE.

WHO WE ARE: THE MONARCH SCHOOL OF NEW ENGLAND IS A DAY SCHOOL THAT SERVES CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS WITH SIGNIFICANT DISABILITIES, AGES 5 TO 22. WHY WE ARE UNIQUE: OURS IS A NURTURING ENVIRONMENT. AS A SMALL SCHOOL, WE USE AN INTERNAL, COLLABORATIVE MODEL, INTEGRATING EDUCATION AND THERAPY INTO A STUDENT'S INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAM FOR THE FOLLOWING: AUTISM, PHYSICAL DISABILITIES, TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY, HEARING AND VISION IMPAIRMENT, DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, EMOTIONAL CHALLENGES, MULTIPLE DISABILITIES AND RARE GENETIC, SENSORY PROCESSING, AND SPEECH/LANGUAGE DISORDERS. OUR GOAL IS TO WORK WITH STUDENTS, ADDRESS THEIR EDUCATIONAL CHALLENGES, AND IN AN APPROPRIATE TIMEFRAME, TRANSITION THEM TO THEIR HOME SCHOOL OR ON TO WORK. OUR APPROACH: ROOTED IN THE BELIEF THAT EACH CHILD DESERVES AN ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH HE OR SHE CAN FLOURISH, THE MONARCH SCHOOL OF NEW ENGLAND DESIGNS PROGRAMS BASED ON THE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS AND CAPABILITIES OF EACH STUDENT. STUDENTS HERE ARE SEEN FOR THEIR ABILITIES, FOR THEIR CAPACITY TO LEARN AND TO GROW. WHAT WE OFFER: EDUCATION - STUDENTS COME TO THE MONARCH SCHOOL OF NEW ENGLAND WITH A VARIETY OF UNIQUE NEEDS AND ABILITIES. TYPICALLY, THERE ARE NO MORE THAN EIGHT STUDENTS PER CLASSROOM WITH A 1-TO-1 RATIO BETWEEN THE TEACHER AND STAFF. CLASSROOMS INCLUDE STUDENTS WITHIN A 4-YEAR AGE RANGE OF EACH OTHER. OUR CURRICULUM ALIGNS WITH THE NEW HAMPSHIRE CURRICULUM FRAMEWORKS, THE MATH AND ENGLISH-LANGUAGE ARTS COMMON SORE STANDARDS AND MAINE LEARNING RESULTS. RELATED SERVICES - PHYSICAL THERAPY, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, SPEECH-LANGUAGE, VISION AND BEHAVIOR ARE SERVICES WE OFFER OUR STUDENTS. THESE THERAPIES ARE PROVIDED IN CLASS AND THROUGHOUT THE DAY SO THERE IS NO INTERRUPTION IN A STUDENT'S LEARNING PROCESS. OTHER RELATED SERVICES INCLUDE HIPPOTHERAPY, THERAPEUTIC AQUATICS, ADAPTIVE SKIING, MUSIC, ART, GARDENING AND SOCIAL SKILLS TRAINING. PRE-VOCATION AND VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS - ONCE A STUDENT IS ACCEPTED AT THE MONARCH SCHOOL OF NEW ENGLAND, AND BASED ON HIS OR HER ABILITIES, WORK TASKS ARE ASSIGNED. AS A STUDENT AGES, AND IF APPROPRIATE, OUR GOAL IS FOR EACH TO INTERVIEW AND THEN BE PLACED IN COMMUNITY JOBS. THE ABILITIES AND SKILLS GAINED IN THESE JOBS SET THE FOUNDATION FOR A STUDENT'S TRANSITION AT AGE 21, FROM SCHOOL TO WORK, OR FROM SCHOOL TO THE COMMUNITY.
