THE CENTER HELPING OBESITY IN CHILDREN END SUCCESSFULLY INC. (C.H.O.I.C.E.S.) IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION FORMED IN YEAR 2002. THE CENTER'S MISSION IS TO BE A PARENT AND CHILDREN RESOURCE CENTER FOR THE CLINICALLY DIAGNOSED AND AT-RISK CHILDREN OF OBESITY.

COOKING WITH CHOICES OFFERS FAMILY WORKSHOP COOKING CLASSES TO TEACH FAMILIES HOW TO PREPARE HEALTHY MEALS AS A FAMILY. EACH SERIES CONSISTS OF THREE TO SIX COOKING CLASSES. WE USE THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH'S WE CAN! AND THE AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION FOR GUIDANCE. SNACK & STORY TIME COOKING CLASSES OFFERED TO CHILDREN AS AN ARTISTIC WAY TO MAKE HEALTHY SNACKS. ONCE THE SNACK IS MADE THEY ARE TREATED TO LIVE STORY TELLING. STEM ELEMENTS ARE INCORPORATED TO CONNECT TO CURRENT TOPICS OF THEIR CLASS INSTRUCTION.
THE C.H.O.I.C.E.S. MOBILE FOOD PANTRY DISTRIBUTION ADDRESSES FOOD INSECURITY AND THE LACK OF ACCESS TO HEALTHY, AFFORDABLE FOOD IN PREDOMINANTLY BLACK/AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITIES. OUR MONTHLY PANTRIES OCCUR IN MULTIPLE LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES WHERE OUR TARGET POPULATIONS LIVES. IN 2021, WE DISTRIBUTED 199,964 POUNDS OF HEALTHY FOOD VIA OUR MONTHLY MOBILE PANTRIES
THE THANKSGIVING TURKEY BASKET & FOOD GIVEAWAY EVENT OCCURS ANNUALLY SO THAT FAMILIES CAN HAVE HEALTHY FOOD TO EAT DURING THE HOLIDAY WHEN SCHOOL IS CLOSED. OUR GOAL IS TO PROVIDE THANKSGIVING DINNER BUT TO ALSO GIVE THEM ENOUGH FRUITS, VEGETABLES, LEAN PROTEINS AND GROCERIES TO LAST A WEEK. OUR 2021 EVENT PROVIDED 53,000 POUNDS OF FRESH HEALTHY GROCERIES, 3,824 POUNDS OF TURKEY, TURKEY BREASTS, HENS & PORK TENDERLOINS WERE DISTRIBUTED AND 2,110 FAMILIES (5,275 PEOPLE) WERE SERVED
