ADVOCACY: IN 2021, MCV WORKED WITH STATE LAWMAKERS TO ADVANCE ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY GOALS AND THROUGH THE MAINE CLIMATE COUNCIL AND OTHER PARTNERS TO IMPLEMENT THE STATE'S NEW CLIMATE ACTION PLAN. GROUNDED IN SCIENCE AND COMMUNITY AND DEVELOPED THROUGH A COLLABORATIVE, WHOLE-OF-GOVERNMENT PROCESS, MAINE WON'T WAIT POSITIONS OUR STATE AS A CLIMATE ACTION LEADER. AT THE ONE-YEAR MARK, MAINE HAD ALREADY MADE SIGNIFICANT STRIDES, AND A RECENT REPORT SHOWS THAT THE STATE'S AMBITIOUS EMISSIONS REDUCTION TARGETS ARE NOW WELL WITHIN REACH.CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE OHOLDING MAINE'S ELECTED OFFICIALS ACCOUNTABLE: SINCE 1986, MCV'S ANNUAL ENVIRONMENTAL SCORECARD HAS PROVIDED MAINE PEOPLE WITH FACTUAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MOST IMPORTANT ENVIRONMENTAL LEGISLATION CONSIDERED IN MAINE'S STATE HOUSE. OUR SCORECARD HAS BECOME THE STANDARD BEARER TO DETERMINE THE ENVIRONMENTAL RECORD OF ALL MEMBERS OF THE MAINE STATE LEGISLATURE. WE SCORE THE VOTES ON THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES OF THE YEAR, INCLUDING ENERGY, CLIMATE CHANGE, CLEAN WATER, PUBLIC HEALTH, AND LAND CONSERVATION. IN 2021, WE DISTRIBUTED THE ENVIRONMENTAL SCORECARD IN BOTH A PRINT AND ONLINE FORMAT.CLEAN ENERGY FOR ALL: IN 2021, WE ENGAGED A VARIETY OF STAKEHOLDERS, INCLUDING LOCAL BUSINESS LEADERS, LABOR UNIONS, HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, SPORTSMEN, AND LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS TO SPEAK OUT IN SUPPORT OF FEDERAL POLICIES AND PROGRAMS THAT PROTECT OUR AIR, ENVIRONMENT, CLIMATE, AND HEALTH. CENTRAL TO THIS WORK WAS MOBILIZING KEY CONSTITUENCIES, IMPLEMENTING EARNED MEDIA AND DIGITAL CAMPAIGNS, AND ORGANIZING HIGH-IMPACT EVENTS. DEMOCRACY FOR ALL: WHEN ALL MAINE PEOPLE INCLUDING IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES, RURAL AND COASTAL RESIDENTS, AND YOUNG PEOPLE ARE FULLY INTEGRATED IN THE CLEAN ENERGY ECONOMY, WE WILL SEE A MORE REPRESENTATIVE POPULATION BENEFITING FROM CLEAN ENERGY SOLUTIONS, AND WORKING COLLECTIVELY TO ADVANCE THE ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE VALUES THAT WE SHARE. IN 2021, OUR DEMOCRACY FOR ALL CAMPAIGN CELEBRATED THE PASSAGE OF ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION (OVR), APPLAUDED MAINE JOINING 30 OTHER STATES IN ERIC (THE ELECTRONIC REGISTRATION INFORMATION CENTER), AND HELPED EXPAND ONGOING ABSENTEE VOTING.EDUCATING THE PUBLIC: MCV CONTINUED A WEEKLY WEBINAR STYLE LUNCH AND LEARN PROGRAM AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN APRIL 2020. AT THE OUTSET, OUR GOALS FOR THE PROGRAM WERE TO PROVIDE EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR NETWORK OF ALLIES AND SUPPORTERS, BUILD AFFINITY AND STAY CONNECTED, AND TO AMPLIFY THE WORK BEING DONE BY EXPERTS. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, THOUSANDS OF MAINE PEOPLE HAVE JOINED US ONLINE FOR A VARIETY OF ENGAGING PROGRAMS.
