OUR ASSOCIATION IS MADE UP OF APPROXIMATELY 150 USSF CERTIFIED REFEREES, WHO ARE TREATED AS INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS (AS PER INDUSTRY STANDARDS),LIVING IN AND AROUND THE SOUTHWEST PORTION OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA. IN A 'NORMAL' YEAR, SBSRA PROVIDES REFEREE CREWS FOR OVER 6,500 YOUTH AND ADULT MATCHES, IN ADDITION TO CONTINUING EDUCATION AND TRAINING.

SDOCC IS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA OUTRIGGER RACING ASSOCIATION (SCORA) AND AS WELL AS SENDING TEAMS TO COMPETE IN ALL SCORA RACES UP AND DOWN THE COAST OF CALIFORNIA, SDOCC PRIDES ITSELF ON HAVING A STRONG REPRESENTATION IN RACES IN HAWAII AS WELL AS RACES OVER MAINLAND AMERICA. OUTRIGGER CANOEING IS RAPIDLY BECOMING THE MOST COMPETITIVE WATER SPORT ALONG THE WEST COAST, WITH 29 CLUBS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, ARIZONA AND NEVADA AS WELL AS 17 IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, AND SINCE ALL DIVISIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, OUTRIGGER CANOE RACING IS ONE OF A FEW TOTALLY CO-ED WATER SPORTS AVAILABLE.

These programs may be offered by local clubs devoted to a particular activity or sport; may provide individual or team coaching assistance or instruction, access to equipment and facilities, and uniforms, if necessary; and may sponsor or make arrangements for athletes to participate in amateur competitions, usually at the local or regional level, and provide officials for games. These events are generally for the enjoyment of the athletes and are not at a high enough competitive level to be considered spectator sports.
