HILL & DALE FAMILY LEARNING CENTER ("HILL & DALE") WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1950 IN THE PACIFIC PALISADES AND WAS LATER INCORPORATED AS NON-PROFIT EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CENTER IN 1979. IN 1984, HILL & DALE ENTERED INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE DEVELOPERS OF WHAT IS NOW KNOWN AS THE COLORADO CENTER TO PROVIDE CARE AND EDUCATION TO 43 PRESCHOOL AGED CHILDREN. IN 1987, HILL & DALE PARTNERED WITH THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA IN ORDER TO OPERATE AN INFANT & TODDLER CENTER IN CITY OWNED PROPERTY (A FORMER FIRE STATION) THE BUILDING WAS REMODELED WITH SUPPORT FROM THE CITY AND A GENEROUS GRANT FROM THE WATT COMPANY AND IS ABLE TO SERVE 10 INFANTS AND 26 TODDLERS. HILL & DALE PROVIDES SERVICES FOR UP TO 79 CHILDREN AT ONE TIME AGES 0-5, BETWEEN ITS TWO CAMPUSES. PRIORITY IS GIVEN TO CITY OF SANTA MONICA EMPLOYEES, THOSE EMPLOYED IN SANTA MONICA AND RESIDENTS OF SANTA MONICA. HILL & DALE'S MAJOR SOURCES OF FUNDING ARE STUDENT TUITION AND FEES, VARIOUS FUNDRAISERS HELD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND ITS ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN.IMPACTED BY THE PANDEMIC, HILL & DALE WAS FORCED TO CLOSE FOR A FEW MONTHS IN 2020. THE ORGANIZATION REOPENED IN THE NEW FISCAL YEAR ON JULY 6, 2020, AND ENROLLMENT REVENUE HAD FALLEN BY OVER 50%. MONTH BY MONTH, THE ORGANIZATION SUCCESSFULLY FILLED THE VACANT PROGRAM SPACES AND BROUGHT HILL & DALE BACK TO NEAR-FULL CAPACITY.ALTHOUGH MAJOR FUNDRAISING AND COMMUNITY EVENTS LIKE THE ANNUAL GALA WERE CANCELLED, THE ORGANIZATION WAS ABLE TO RETAIN ALL ITS STAFF AND MAINTAIN OPERATIONS BY UTILIZING ITS RESERVE FUNDS, DONATIONS MADE BY FAMILIES, AND A SECOND SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (SBA) PAYROLL PROTECTION PROGRAM LOAN.THE PRINCIPAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING THE 2021 FISCAL YEAR WERE THE ABILITY TO RETAIN ALL STAFF, SECURE VITAL GOVERNMENT FUNDING, AND PLAN FOR REPLENISHING ENROLLMENT UNDER COVID-19 GUIDELINES.
